This year, the UPU International Letter Writing Competition launched by the Universal Postal Union has the theme “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you”. With this content, Duong thought of director James Cameron, the famous filmmaker of Titanic (1997), The Abyss (1989) or Avatar (2009)… She said she chose the Pacific Ocean because it is the largest and deepest of the five oceanic regions in the world. Throughout the letter, Khue compares herself to the ocean and uses the pronoun "I".

With a lively, gentle, whispering but profound writing style when expressing personal wounds to his son - director James Cameron and begging to turn the idea of making a film into reality. Because the ocean believes that director James Cameron can convey this message to all of humanity. "Use your passion, talent, vision and influence to create a film that awakens the world, saves us, saves humanity.

"I wait for you every second, every minute," the letter said. Khue confided: "Every day, through reading books and accessing information through the media, I understand clearly what the ocean is suffering. Therefore, when touching on the topic of the ocean, I turned the ocean's pain into my own pain and used my heart and mind to share the deep hidden corners of the ocean. I am happy when my heartfelt thoughts are highly appreciated by the organizers. For me, it is an honor and pride. I am even happier when my letter will be translated into English and French and I will represent Vietnam to participate in the international competition."

For billions of years, the ocean has protected the earth and nurtured life, keeping the planet in balance, but today, the ocean is crying out for help. From this perspective, Khue likens the ocean’s illnesses to poison flowing through the veins, suffocating life, a fever that is getting worse, coral reefs bleaching, ocean currents turning upside down, violent storms and many wounds that cannot be healed…

At the same time, remembering the time when the whale was strong and loved life, the whale sang a song of freedom, the coral reef danced, the ocean blood flowed abundantly, nourishing the entire ecosystem. Now, the ocean needs a film to tell the truth, the story of how it is being killed and dying, and that humans are also ending the world. The ocean wants this film to be called “The Ocean's Plea” and call for action from humans.

Khue said that through the letter, she suggested that the film script was about the wounds of the ocean, but no one listened. From the Mariana Trench, a mysterious signal rang out, the sound was sad like the ocean was crying. The signal was decoded, carrying the terrifying message: "I am dying. If you do not act, humanity will end."

The world did not believe it, but James Cameron, who had dived 30 times to explore the Titanic wreck, the Mariana Trench and hydrothermal vents, sensed something was wrong. The director decided to assemble a team of scientists to embark on an expedition into the heart of the ocean to find the true cause of the request. The film ended with a haunting open ending, showing the boy standing on a beach full of trash.

“Through the film, I want to honor the "ocean doctors" such as machines that suck up marine waste and oil spills and turn them into resources; coral regeneration projects, climate change projects with CO2 absorption technology, reforestation and ecosystem restoration; increasing CO2 absorption... And emphasize the message that the above projects are just like a drop in the ocean without the cooperation of all humanity", Khue shared.
