According to historical records, in the early 19th century, Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong migrated from Central Vietnam to settle in My Tra village. Not only did they reclaim barren land, cultivate tangerines, and establish the Vuon Quyt market (the predecessor of Cao Lan market), but they were also renowned for their virtue and integrity. In gratitude for their contributions, the people erected a shrine to worship them, later building a temple, which was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. In 2014, the site was awarded a gold plaque by UNESCO as one of the "Top 100 Outstanding Cultural and Spiritual Tourism Destinations".
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Ritual Committee of the temple dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong, said: “The number of people and tourists attending this year's ceremony increased by more than 30,000 compared to last year, showing the deep affection and respect of the people for Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong.” This year's commemoration ceremony, in addition to traditional rituals, incorporated many unique cultural and artistic activities such as an art program, a lantern festival themed "A Hundred Years of Origins," and an exhibition space showcasing OCOP products and characteristic products from 102 communes and wards in the province.
Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee, Bui Quoc Nam, shared: "The commemoration ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong is not only an important cultural and spiritual event, but also an opportunity to educate about traditions and remind today's generation of the contributions of our ancestors." For the people of Dong Thap, the commemoration ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong has become an indispensable part of their cultural and spiritual life. Through each ceremony, the spirit of solidarity, affection, and the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" is nurtured and continued alongside the development of Cao Lanh.
