This is an unprecedented achievement of the school, including a valedictorian majoring in Mathematics at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted.
Impressive faces
Tran Bao Trang (grade 9A, Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School) had a special journey from a village school to a district school and was ranked first in the Math exam at a specialized school in the province. Before that, she was a student at Phong Thinh Primary and Secondary School (Cat Ngan, Nghe An ). The turning point for Bao Trang came in grade 8, when she took part in the competition and became an excellent student of the district in 2 subjects: Math and English, in which, in Math, she won first prize with a near-perfect score of 19.5/20 points. With this achievement, at the beginning of grade 9, she was transferred to Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School - a key school of the old Thanh Chuong district.
Entering a new environment in an important school year, the village school girl quickly adapted. With the attention and training of teachers, and a vibrant learning movement in the class, Bao Trang was able to develop her abilities. At the Provincial Excellent Student Competition in grade 9, she won second prize in Math; at the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, she excelled and won the top position in the Math class. Sharing her study secrets, Bao Trang said that the most important thing is passion and diligence. Because she loves Math, every time she solves a difficult problem, she feels happy and excited to take on new challenges.
In the same class 9A, twin sisters Nguyen Thuong Huyen and Nguyen Thuong Hao excelled in being admitted to the Math 2 and History classes at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. While Thuong Huyen is a student who is inclined towards social subjects and was admitted to the History class, her younger sister Thuong Hao loves natural sciences. In grade 9, Huyen won second prize in the provincial Literature competition while Hao won second prize in Chemistry.
Thuong Hao shared: “Normally, I am talkative and outgoing, but before each exam, I feel pressured, which affects my health and my test-taking mentality. After that, I tried to change myself. Instead of worrying too much about not getting the desired results, I focused on studying, practicing, and finding joy when solving difficult exercises. If I have any problems, I seek help from teachers and friends.”
Thuong Huyen commented that she is not talkative, but likes to express her thoughts, opinions, and feelings by writing on paper. She chooses a gentle and pressure-free way of studying… Although she feels a bit regretful about not being able to enter the Literature class as her original goal, Thuong Huyen considers being admitted to the History class as a new “chance” to try her hand at Phan Boi Chau Specialized School.

Fire tests gold
After the entrance exam to grade 10, class 9A - Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School had 17 students passed the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and 16 students passed the entrance exam to Vinh University High School for the Gifted. Among them, many students were admitted to 2 specialized schools at the same time. Not only focusing on a few subjects, but the results of the class were very diverse, with 7 students passing the entrance exam to specialized Math classes, the rest were specialized in Physics, Chemistry, Literature, History, English, Korean...
Teacher Nguyen Ngoc Nam - homeroom teacher of class 9A shared that this is an unprecedented achievement for Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School as well as for himself since he became a homeroom teacher. Previously, in the competition to select excellent students in Nghe An province, his homeroom class had 20 students winning prizes in many subjects.
In fact, class 9A is a selective class of Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School, the quality of the input students has been screened, each student has his own strengths. The class leader is a "key" teacher, but Mr. Nam's viewpoint in the work of a homeroom teacher is "there are no stars in the class". Accompanying the students since grade 7, I always pay attention, learn about the circumstances, personality, and strengths of each student so that they can confidently express their abilities.
Later in the teaching process, subject teachers will discover students who are capable of their subjects and nurture and review them. At the same time, they will coordinate with homeroom teachers to help students build a reasonable review schedule, arrange time to both study the specialized subject and not deviate or neglect other subjects.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Dat - Principal of Ton Quang Phiet Secondary School said that this year is the first year of students studying and taking exams according to the 2018 General Education Program. Implementing Circular 29/2024 on extra teaching and learning, from the beginning of the second semester of the 2024 - 2025 school year, all teachers have volunteered to teach extra classes for free until the exam date. The success of grade 9 students and class 9A in particular is a great gift from teachers, becoming a motivation for generations of students of the school to continue to strive and develop.
