Sharing about the flood situation in the South Central region, Mr. Lam said: "Currently, the flood situation in the South Central region is at a dangerous level. Last night and this morning, we measured 3 flood peaks exceeding historical levels, including Ky Lo River exceeding the historical level of 2009, Ba River exceeding the historical level of 1993, Dinh Ninh Hoa River exceeding the historical level of 1986".

Currently, floods on the Con River, Ky Lo River, Ba River, Dinh Ninh Hoa River, Cai Nha Trang River, and Cai Phan Giang River are all at high levels, 0.2-2.12m higher than level 3. In the next 6 hours, floods on the Ba River alone will continue to rise, while other rivers will slowly recede.

“Assessing this flood, this is a long period of heavy rain, after the previous rain caused floods on rivers to rise rapidly. In addition, the operation of reservoirs caused the water level on rivers to be relatively high, leading to historic floods,” Mr. Lam assessed.

The cause of the rain, Mr. Lam said, in recent days, due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, combined with the East wave, the rains have concentrated in the provinces of Dak Lak and Nha Trang, more concentrated in coastal areas, leading to daily rainfall exceeding history. In addition, the risk of flash floods and landslides is very high in the provinces of the South Central region, especially the two provinces of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa.

According to Mr. Lam, heavy rain is forecast to continue to occur in the South Central region today and tonight, focusing on the two provinces of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa , with rainfall ranging from 100-200mm, in some places over 350mm. This rainfall will maintain flood level 3 on rivers in the two provinces of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa. In particular, the risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming hours remains high.

After November 21, the rain in Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will gradually decrease and move to Quang Ngai, Da Nang , and Hue provinces. Around November 24, the rain in Quang Ngai, Da Nang, and Hue provinces will stop completely. From November 21, the rain will decrease and the flood will subside quickly. Around the end of November 21, the flooding will decrease completely.
