Every year, the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor (FLD) always closely directs all levels of the union to focus on widely disseminating the meaning and humane purpose of the "Union Shelter" program, creating high consensus and a spirit of voluntary contribution from cadres, union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers, thereby realizing the dream of settling down of many poor laborers.

HELP WORKERS SETTLE IN

Many workers and laborers are living in dilapidated, unsafe houses, making their lives more difficult and worrying. When the "College Shelter" Program supported their construction, they felt like they had wings of hope, joy was evident on each face, creating motivation to work with peace of mind and stick with the job for a long time.

Ho Thi Thanh Thuy's family has 6 members and their economic conditions are extremely difficult. Her husband works as a porter, with an unstable income; the eldest daughter has had ovarian cyst surgery twice, the middle child is in college, and the youngest child is only 2 years old and has to be taken care of by her grandmother. The life of Thuy's entire family depends mainly on her salary of more than 7 million VND/month. From the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund of the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor, Thuy received 50 million VND in support. In addition, YMUV Company Limited (where Thuy works) also supported her with an additional 30 million VND, so that she could complete the "Trade Union Shelter" and stabilize her housing.

Speaking at the house receiving ceremony, Ms. Thuy emotionally shared: “I am truly grateful for the timely and practical support from the Trade Union. Thanks to the Trade Union Shelter Program, my family has a spacious house to protect us from the sun and rain. I hope the program will continue to spread to help more people in difficult circumstances like me have a shelter and feel secure to move forward in life.”

The case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Quyen (born in 1983) is also particularly difficult. Ms. Quyen currently lives in Group 8, Hamlet 5, Trung An Commune, My Tho City, Tien Giang Province, is a single mother raising 2 children and taking care of her sick elderly mother. Ms. Quyen's whole family lives on her worker's salary of about 6.5 million VND/month, not enough to build a house even though her biological mother gave her a 130 m² plot of land. Faced with Ms. Quyen's difficult situation, the Trade Union of Du Duc Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tan Huong Industrial Park, Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province) proposed to support the construction of a "Trade Union Shelter", from the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund to support 50 million VND.

Sharing at the house handover ceremony, Ms. Quyen happily said: "I never thought I could own a solid roof to protect my whole family from the sun and rain. Thanks to the valuable support from the Union and the company, my dream has come true. This small house is not only a place to live, but also a great motivation to help me be more stable in life."

In the journey of practically caring for workers, the "Trade Union Shelter" Program has received consensus and cooperation from many units and enterprises. Chairman of the Trade Union of Du Duc Vietnam Co., Ltd. Nguyen Van Be Ba shared: "We accompany the "Trade Union Shelter" Program because we understand that housing is an important condition to help workers feel secure at work. The program brings practical results, not only providing material support, but also creating spiritual motivation for workers".

CONTINUE TO ACCOMPANY AND SUPPORT

The housing program "Trade Union Shelter" launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor since 2006 is a program that is consistent with the Party and State's policies on poverty reduction. During the implementation process, the program has regularly received attention and leadership from Party committees at all levels, the coordination and facilitation of authorities at all levels; and has been actively and synchronously implemented by Trade Unions at all levels, especially with the consensus and support of cadres, union members, and employees. After nearly 19 years of implementing the "Trade Union Shelter" program, the Tien Giang Provincial Confederation of Labor has reviewed and provided funding to build 1,750 "Trade Union Shelter" houses.

Chairman of the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor Le Minh Hung said: “It can be said that the “Union Shelter” program has achieved positive results in supporting union members and workers in difficult circumstances with housing, contributing to stabilizing their lives and long-term commitment to their jobs. This program has helped many families escape from temporary, dilapidated houses and rented houses; creating conditions for them to have a stable home, peace of mind to work and produce.”

However, the implementation of the "Union Shelter" Program still faces some difficulties, because union members are workers and laborers in difficult circumstances, living in rented houses and want to build a "Union Shelter" but do not have land to build or do not have accumulated funds to build a house. The detection and proposal of granting to union members who are workers and laborers in the enterprise sector is still limited, because grassroots union officials are still holding concurrent positions and have not promptly detected difficult circumstances.

In order for the "Trade Union Shelter" Program to become more and more effective, in the coming time, Trade Unions at all levels of Tien Giang province will continue to mobilize union members and employees to support the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund to support the construction of houses for union members and employees facing difficult housing circumstances; promptly detect union members who are workers and laborers facing difficult circumstances; do a good job of investigating and surveying cases requesting support for house construction and repair in accordance with regulations; research and propose expanding the scope of the "Trade Union Shelter" Program to create motivation, trust and hope for poor laborers in the program.
