The rankings of the world's richest people have undergone a drastic reshuffle after a series of revenue reports from technology companies were released, and the person who suffered the biggest loss was Mark Zuckerberg. Specifically, in just one day, the Facebook founder dropped to 5th place on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This is also the lowest position Zuckerberg has held in the past two years.

Investors panicked after Meta announced plans to issue $30 billion in bonds to fund AI research, with its shares falling as much as 11% – the biggest drop since 2022, analysts said.

The stock plunge sent Zuckerberg's net worth down $29.2 billion in one day, the fourth-biggest market-driven drop ever recorded by Bloomberg 's wealth index.

While Zuckerberg fell, two other tech billionaires, Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and Larry Page (Alphabet), jumped to their highest positions since October 2023. Specifically, Alphabet shares rose 2.5% after reporting revenue that exceeded analysts' expectations. This growth was mainly due to the surge in demand for cloud services and AI.

Meanwhile, Amazon shares have risen more than 30% since April 2025. The e-commerce giant also reported third-quarter sales and profits that beat estimates, sending shares soaring in trading on October 30.

Meta recently announced in a memo to employees that it was cutting about 600 jobs in its artificial intelligence division, a move that comes as the company seeks to catch up with rivals in the fierce competition over the technology.

The layoffs occurred at Superintelligence Labs, the umbrella name for the company’s AI efforts. The division has about 3,000 employees, though the exact number was not disclosed.

Mark Zuckerberg has been actively recruiting top AI experts in recent times, including appointing Alexandr Wang as the new Chief AI Officer earlier this year. These people are being empowered to develop “artificial superintelligence” that surpasses the human brain and is not on the cut list.

The personnel changes are aimed at streamlining the cumbersome apparatus due to the rapid acceleration of the group's AI development, according to the NYT. They said the goal is to help Meta develop AI products faster.
