Nga Bay City, Hau Giang Province is the first locality in the Mekong Delta to be recognized as meeting New Rural standards. Over the years, not only has people's lives improved, but the appearance of the countryside has also "changed dramatically".
The muddy roads of the past are now smooth, the people planted green trees on both sides of the road, creating a lush green landscape, as beautiful as vivid paintings...
Mr. Pham Van Thu, in Ba Ngan Hamlet, Dai Thanh Commune, Nga Bay City said: "Previously, the road through the area was only planted with green string of pearls". One day, he came up with the idea of planting some types in between to create more color.
In the past, people only planted pearl plants, but now they also plant hibiscus, hibiscus, etc. and trim them neatly, creating eye-catching colors. Passersby feel like they are lost in unique "flower streets".
Up to now, Nga Bay has mobilized people to plant trees, create landscapes, and create extremely attractive rural roads.
To keep the rows of trees neat and beautiful, the people of the communes have worked together to take care of them and trim them regularly. Mr. Bui Viet Ha, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nga Bay City, said that up to now, in the two newly-developed rural communes of Dai Thanh and Tan Thanh, more than 80% of the people have planted green hedges in front of their houses, creating new vitality for the countryside.
In Tan Hoa hamlet, Giai Xuan commune, Phong Dien district, Can Tho city, there is Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lang, a tycoon in the cosmetics industry. After a period of successful business in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Lang spent his own money to build a flower road to show gratitude to his poor hometown.
Mr. Lang planted ten o'clock flowers, running straight along both sides of the road, extremely beautiful. One side was full of yellow flowers, the other side was full of red flowers. On the riverbank, he placed a fish trap that farmers used to use in the past...
Next, he bought land, hired workers to grow vegetables, dug fish ponds, created lotus ponds... All of this created a free garden resort.
According to Mr. Lang, after completion, this ecological area will have an area of more than 3 hectares, mainly consisting of 2 smooth, clean rural roads, combined with growing ten o'clock flowers.
Currently, Mr. Lang has established the "Ong Lang Street" eco -tourism area located in Giai Xuan commune, Phong Dien district. Ong Lang Street has a total expected area of 30,000 m2 when completed. There is also a Pinwheel Field with thousands of colorful pinwheels, a favorite check-in spot for young people. A special feature of Ong Lang Street Eco-tourism Area is that it is completely free for local and foreign people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Standing Vice Chairman of Phong Dien District People's Committee, Can Tho City, said that the ecological area built by Mr. Lang not only contributes to improving the local infrastructure, but also helps people in the countryside have more conditions for entertainment, recreation, and health training. Young people have more places to check-in. "These are extremely valuable things," he said.
