Tourists defy warnings and still go swimming in Nha Trang beach

(Dan Tri) - Although authorities have issued warnings of danger and posted signs prohibiting swimming, many tourists still freely swim in Nha Trang beach (Khanh Hoa province) in conditions of big waves and rough seas.

According to Dan Tri reporters, on October 26, Nha Trang sea had 1-2m high waves, hitting the shore hard, posing many potential safety risks to residents and tourists participating in activities at sea, especially swimming.

To ensure the safety of residents and tourists, authorities have placed many warning signs saying "no swimming" with an English version.

However, many tourists, especially foreigners, still ignore warnings and wade into deep water to swim.

According to information from the Nha Trang Bay Management Board (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province), on October 18 and 22, the unit's Rescue Team discovered and promptly rescued two foreign tourists who drowned while swimming in the sea.

Previously, on October 16, Waterway Traffic Police Team No. 1 also rescued a foreign tourist who was swept away by waves while swimming in Nha Trang beach.

Mr. Le Van Lan (64 years old), residing in Nha Trang ward, said that during the rough sea season, many local people still go swimming in Nha Trang beach, but usually only swim near the shore, not "crazy about water" like some foreign tourists.

According to Mr. Lan, this season, in addition to big waves, in some areas there are also undercurrents. If not careful, it is easy to be swept away, which is potentially dangerous.

Mr. Dam Hai Van, Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board, said that in the face of many tourists, especially foreign tourists, swimming in the sea when the waves are big and the wind is strong, in addition to posting warning signs, the unit also arranged for forces to use loudspeakers to directly remind them.

In addition, the Bay Management Board has increased patrols to promptly detect and rescue accidents at sea; at the same time, it has sent documents to unions and tourism businesses, requesting coordination in propagating and reminding tourists about the risks of unsafe swimming in the sea in big wave conditions.
