Previously, on October 23, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology admitted a 48-year-old female patient with a swollen ear, discharge, and severe pain. Upon examination, the doctor discovered a white, moving, maggot-like foreign object in the ear canal.

After draining the fluid, the team removed five live maggots and a dead insect close to the eardrum. According to the doctors, the patient was unable to care for himself. Most likely, the insects had crawled into the ear, made a nest and laid eggs, leading to the maggots hatching.
Doctors warn that if detected late, the patient may have a perforated eardrum. People should keep their ears clean and dry and go to a medical facility if they experience pain, itching or unusual discharge, especially young children and those who cannot clean themselves.
