Harvesting at the right time - the secret to preserving the active ingredients of Platycodon grandiflorus root.
In the growing area, Nam Duoc's technical staff directly instructs farmers on how to properly harvest Platycodon grandiflorum tubers according to GACP-WHO standards. "Platycodon grandiflorum tubers harvested at the right time will yield the highest yield and saponin content, are firm, plump, have little fiber and are easy to prepare," said Master Tran Nhat Lenh - Nam Duoc's agricultural engineer.
In areas where the harvest is complete, many households are taking advantage of the opportunity to prepare the land early for the new crop. Mr. Hoang Seo Ao shared: "Preparing the land thoroughly and sowing immediately when it rains helps the seeds germinate faster and healthier."
Immediately after being dug up, the Platycodon grandiflorum tubers are selected and classified to ensure uniformity in size and quality. In addition to purchasing raw materials and providing technical support to help farmers feel secure in production, Nam Duoc also controls the quality of Platycodon grandiflorum tubers right from the fields, an important source of raw materials for the production of Ich Nhi Cough Syrup for children.
Over the years, the collaborative model between the government, Nam Duoc, local people, and scientists has helped the growing area develop stably, while also creating sustainable livelihoods. After each harvest, the area is renovated and new seeds are sown, ensuring a supply of clean, standard-compliant raw materials for subsequent seasons.
Developing areas for growing Platycodon grandiflorus that meet GACP-WHO standards.
Lung Phinh commune is located in the region with the highest concentration of Platycodon grandiflorus (Bletilla striata) in Vietnam, and has been certified with GACP-WHO standards since September 2018. During the local trial of cultivating 26 types of medicinal herbs, Platycodon grandiflorus proved suitable for the year-round cool climate and loose soil.

Farmers in Lung Phinh strictly adhere to the GACP-WHO standardized cultivation process for Platycodon grandiflorus, including the "3 no's" (no pesticide residues, no growth stimulants, no chemical fertilizers) and the "3 yes's" (good seed source, standardized process, and stable high active ingredient content).
With the support of Nam Duoc, farmers are guided to choose seeds with traceability records and are disease-free. During the cultivation process, farmers are guided to make beds, cover with plastic to keep moist; take care of naturally, without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides. All operations from sowing seeds, monitoring germination to harvesting are controlled to ensure stable active ingredient content between crops.
Nam Duoc representative said that after many analysis, the Platycodon grandiflorum medicinal herb in Lung Phinh has an active ingredient content 2-3 times higher than the regulation in the pharmacopoeia, surpassing imported raw materials and those grown elsewhere. This is an important foundation for Nam Duoc to proactively source input materials, ensuring stable quality for the product.

After harvesting, the Platycodon root is purchased, washed, dried, and transported to the Nam Duoc Factory by the Bac Ha Regional Agricultural Service Center. There, the raw material undergoes further processing, extraction, and rigorous testing.
