Maye Musk, model and mother of billionaire Elon Musk, has been accused of racism for criticizing a Vietnamese-American reporter.
On the US election day of November 5, billionaire Elon Musk's mother, Maye Musk, posted on her son's company's X account (formerly Twitter), an article criticizing Vietnamese-American technology reporter Ryan Mac of The New York Times.

"I heard @RMac18 (Ryan Mac's account) is going to have a hit story about Elon in The New York Times tomorrow. Sadly, Ryan is a Vietnamese-American reporter. My book is a bestseller in Vietnam. I don't think my readers will believe it if it's hateful and/or dishonest. Wait and see," Maye Musk wrote, according to The Independent. Although the post has been deleted, many people quickly took screenshots and shared them on X. Many accounts criticized billionaire Elon Musk's mother for mentioning Ryan Mac's race. "Ryan Mac was actually born and raised in California. But that doesn't matter. Attacking a reporter because of their ethnic heritage is never appropriate," wrote NBC News reporter Tyler Kingkade. Several other accounts also jumped in to comment, criticizing Maye Musk's "distorted and sad" and "always promoting racism" views. Another person said that criticizing someone because of their skin color is completely unacceptable. According to information on The New York Times, Ryan Mac introduced himself as a reporter in Los Angeles specializing in technology companies and has many years of covering influential figures like Elon Musk. In September, he and a colleague released the book Character Limit: How Elon Musk Destroyed Twitter to talk about the process of the billionaire taking over the social network Twitter, which has now been renamed X. After being called out, Ryan Mac posted a status in response on November 6: "Anyone else making jokes about Vietnamese Americans tonight?". He also updated his personal description on X, adding the phrase "Vietnamese American". After that, Ms. Maye Musk did not hesitate to defend herself. " The New York Times has been lying about Elon for 15 years. Nothing new. It must be hard to continue to be spiteful and dishonest. Hopefully Ryan gets paid well," she wrote. Maye Musk (76 years old) is a nutritionist and professional model who has appeared on the covers of many magazines. She published a book on fitness, nutrition and self-confidence in 1996 and a memoir in 2019. It is unclear which best-selling book in Vietnam she mentioned.
