MG S5 EV runs 430km per charge, from 708 million, will it come to Vietnam?

The new MG S5 EV 2025 was showcased at the Malaysia Motor Show 2025 not long ago. The new electric car model is now on sale in the Malaysian market. This is the second Southeast Asian market to receive this model, after Thailand.

As a competitor to the BYD Atto 3, the MG S5 EV is priced from RM116,548 - RM136,548 (about 708 - 830 million VND). The first 500 customers who buy a car will receive a discount and a free charger.

In the Malaysian market, the MG S5 EV 2025 has 3 versions: Com 49 kWh, Com Long Range and Lux ​​Long Range. The car uses a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 49 kWh in the standard version and 62 kWh in the two Long Range versions. These two types of batteries provide a travel range of 340 km and 430 km respectively after a full charge.

All versions of the car use an electric motor located on the rear axle with a maximum capacity of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. MG emphasizes that the S5 is the only rear-wheel drive electric car in the segment. In addition, the car is also equipped with a multi-link rear suspension system.

This model can use 7 kW AC slow charging or 120 kW DC fast charging. The Lux version can use 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing charging from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes. In addition, the car also has the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature to supply power to devices outside the car. The Regenerative Braking System (KERS) and one-pedal driving mode are also equipped for this model.

True to the tradition of Chinese cars, the 2025 MG S5 EV has quite complete standard equipment with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights in the shape of a racing flag, LED taillights with wings, 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, electronic handbrake.

Auto Hold, single-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, 12.8-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, voice control, 4-speaker audio system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, rear camera and MG iSmart app connectivity.

The Com Long Range version is equipped with fabric and leather seats with perforated MG logo, 6-way power driver's seat and manual lumbar adjustment. Meanwhile, the Lux version is equipped with 18-inch two-tone painted wheels, power folding rearview mirrors, panoramic sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless phone charger, rear seat armrest, reading lights, 6-speaker sound system, automatic wipers, electric trunk with integrated trunk kick sensor and 360-degree camera.

Regardless of the version, the car has 7 airbags, automatic headlights, tire pressure sensors and a full ADAS active safety package. The 2025 MG S5 EV has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,476 x 1,849 x 1,621 mm.

Compared to the BYD Atto 3, the car is slightly larger. The car does not have a front storage compartment under the hood while the rear luggage compartment has a capacity of 453 liters, which can be expanded to 1,441 liters when the rear seats are folded, including the compartment under the floor.

The 2025 MG S5 EV in Malaysia comes in five exterior colors, including Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red and Elegant Latte. The Elegant Latte color is exclusive to the Lux Long Range version.

The MG S5 EV 2025 is warranted for 7 years or 150,000 km for the car and 8 years or 180,000 km for the battery. In addition, there is an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty policy for the electric motor and motor controller. It is not yet clear whether the MG S5 EV 2025 will be sold in Vietnam after Thailand and Malaysia. If so, the car will be a competitor of the VinFast VF7.
