Microsoft releases new update for Windows 11

According to Neowin , like its predecessors for Windows 11, 21H2 and 22H2, version 23H2 will receive a two-year active support policy with monthly cumulative updates, bug fixes, and new features. Windows 11 21H2 ended support early last month, while version 22H2 will be discontinued by Microsoft on October 4, 2024.

Also in its announcement, Microsoft said the company will support the service for Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 23H2, while Home and Pro editions will receive 24 months of support.

Despite being called a major update for Windows 11, version 23H2 seems to have very little to offer if you have installed the Moment 4 update. The biggest changes that users will notice after installing Windows 11 23H2 are the lack of Cortana and the old Mail app (which has been replaced by the new Outlook). Additionally, the Chat app is no longer pinned to the taskbar and has been replaced by Microsoft Teams.

If users upgrade to 23H2 from older Windows 11 updates or Windows 10, the latest release brings a host of new features, such as a redesigned Volume mixer, taskbar upgrades, a new File Explorer with RAR support, native RGB controls in the Settings app, Windows Copilot, Photos and Paint improvements, Windows Backup app, and more.

Users can download Windows 11 23H2 from Microsoft's official website, where the company provides direct links to the ISO files and the Media Creation Tool app to create a bootable USB installation tool directly. Alternatively, go to Windows Update, enable the Get the latest updates as soon as they're available option, and then check for available updates.
