Orphaned and at risk of dropping out of school

BPO - “My parents are no longer here, I have no support. My simple daily meals are not enough to satisfy my hunger. Life has taken away so many things from me, but please don’t take away my path to school” - Nguyen Minh Tien, class 12C1, Nguyen Hue High School (Binh Long town), his voice was broken, choked by the sadness in his heart.

Teachers and friends all felt sorry when seeing the small student, less than 1.2m tall, having to shoulder so many difficulties, preventing him from going to school.

Tien also had a happy childhood. His mother was always hard-working, his father was a manual laborer. The full love of his parents was the warmest thing to welcome him back after stressful hours of studying. But then, tragedy struck his family one after another. In 2022, Tien's mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away. The pain of losing his mother had not yet subsided when, 4 months ago, his father also passed away from liver cancer. The old house (in group 10, Xa Cam 2 neighborhood, Hung Chien ward, Binh Long town) that used to be filled with laughter, is now just a quiet space with 2 portraits on the altar.

Tien had to find many jobs to make ends meet and to support his younger brother's education. However, with his small body, less than 1.2m tall, Tien's journey to find a job has never been easy.

His parents passed away, leaving behind a bank loan of 200 million VND (borrowed for medical treatment), now he has to pay interest every month. Tien also has to take care of his younger brother who is taking the 10th grade entrance exam this year. Tien's two older brothers have their own families, are working as factory workers and have to rent a room, so they can only help him with a little bit of grocery money every month. A local philanthropist sponsors him with 10kg of rice each month. Teachers waive all school fees. For the rest, Tien studies and works part-time to make ends meet. "There are many days when I come home late from work, and cold rice with fish sauce is enough to fill my stomach. I don't dare to dream of being rich. Instead of sitting around blaming and feeling sad that I'm not as lucky as my peers, I see it as motivation to move forward" - Tien shared.

The poor male student does not expect help with living expenses, he only asks for tuition support so that the two brothers can continue to go to school.

The problem of food, clothing, and money has kept Tien awake at night many times, but he did not give up. Before the university entrance exam, with a good academic record, he chose to take the entrance exam to Cao Thang Technical College - a place that he found suitable for his physical condition, low cost and easy to find job opportunities in the future. In Tien's mind, only the path of study can help the two brothers in the future. "My biggest worry is the tuition fee of about 20 million VND for the first year - an amount that is beyond my means at the moment. If we do not have enough money, the future of the two brothers will be unfinished" - Tien said.

We hope that philanthropists will join hands to help Tien's dream come true, so that his knowledge will always be extended and give wings to a bright future.
