When Hafidzah Abdullah, a customer at Malaysia’s largest bank, checked her bank account late last month, she found a balance of more than 404 million ringgit ($86.3 million). That’s a huge sum, especially in a country where the average household income is about $22,000 a year.
It is worth mentioning that along with the appearance of this amount of money, her account became inaccessible.
She took to social media to share her surprise and anger about the incident, complaining about how she had repeatedly run into problems with her bank account, forcing her to go to a branch to resolve the issue or wait on hold on the phone for hours to get connected to customer service.
A representative of Maybank said they have worked with Hafidzah to resolve the matter amicably. Hafidzah is now able to access her account, and confirmed that her account was not compromised.
