Responding to Dan Tri reporters this morning (August 13), Ms. Duong Bich Nguyet, Deputy Director of the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, confirmed that a candidate's score was increased from 1.1 points to 8.75 points after the high school graduation review. The reason was that this candidate filled in the wrong exam code, causing the machine to grade the answer according to a different exam code.

Specifically, according to the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, NVS is a chemistry major at Lao Cai High School for the Gifted. This year, he is taking the entrance exam to Hanoi Medical University. Notably, S. has astigmatism.

After finishing the exam, I compared the answers and found that my exam score was not consistent with the previously compared results, so I filed a request for a review.

A representative of the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training said that according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , this year there are 48 exam codes. Exam 1 will have exam codes 01-24. Exam 2 will have exam codes 25-48.

Candidate S. took exam 2, registration number 0403 but mistakenly filled in the exam code 0430 so the machine graded according to the result of exam code 0430.

"After we determined his seat and compared the exam paper, it showed that S. matched the registration number 0403," said the representative.

According to this representative, when the candidates submitted their papers, the supervisor was not allowed to hold the test papers, so he only compared the number of test papers and other procedures, then collected the papers as usual, so no abnormalities were detected.

“We immediately reported the incident to the Ministry of Education and Training, asking for instructions on how to handle this unusual case.

The Ministry of Education and Training's viewpoint is to ensure maximum benefits for candidates. Therefore, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training has established a review council with members according to regulations such as: Police, provincial inspectors..., to re-evaluate.

We were so worried that we couldn't sleep because we were afraid that there would be some error in the software and what would happen to the thousands of exams.

However, after reviewing 350 exams (11 exams from the 2006 general education program and 339 exams from the 2018 general education program), only S. and one other candidate had their scores changed. The remaining 348 exams in Lao Cai province kept their scores after the review.

Of which, the literature test of one candidate increased from 6.75 to 7.0 points and the biology test of S. increased from 1.1 to 8.75 points. The remaining scores of the other tests remained unchanged compared to before the review," said a representative of the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training.

It is known that S. is a chemistry major, so his high school graduation exam scores for other subjects are quite high: math 7.75 points, literature 7.25 points, chemistry 8.5 points.

Responding to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Head of the exam board, National Steering Committee for the 2025 high school graduation exam, said that there were cases of wrongly filling in or blurring the exam code as above.

“For example, there are students who fill in the exam code 1234 but when they fill in the wrong number 4321 or fill in the blank. Although the councils have reminded them many times before the exam, due to their psychology, many students still make the same mistake.

Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Training's viewpoint is that regardless of subjective or objective errors, the solution must first and foremost be based on the interests of the candidates," said Mr. Ha.

According to Mr. Ha, multiple choice tests help students know their scores immediately after comparing answers, so when their scores are too low, they will wonder. Therefore, in all documents, the Ministry of Education and Training always reminds students to be careful and if they see anything unusual on the test, they must immediately report it to the examination board for handling.
