Some people work extra during Tet, others "turn around" at the last minute to return home to their families.
Student Kim Ngan said her family is poor and bus tickets tripled at the end of the year, so she doesn’t dare think about going home for Tet. This is also the first year she’s spending Tet alone away from home, and just thinking about it makes her feel indescribable.
However, the plan changed at the last minute when Ngan was one of 82 students selected by the program to receive Tet bus tickets.
"Holding the school gift in my hand, I feel like the road home is a little closer, Tet is also closer," Ngan smiled.
Lam Hoang Em said that because he wants to save money to buy a motorbike, he will not return to Bac Lieu to celebrate Tet with his family.
Instead, you will work as a sales person during Tet. If your salary is 25,000 VND/hour on normal days, you will be paid double during Tet, not including Tet bonus.
"Receiving the Tet gift, I was quite surprised, very happy and felt somewhat comforted because this was the first Tet away from home," Hoang Em confided.

If counting this year, it is the third time that Laotian female student Vongonkeo Manychan, who is studying at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, celebrates the traditional Vietnamese New Year. She said she did not choose to return to Laos but took advantage of this holiday to experience and explore the culture of the traditional Vietnamese New Year.
She is also a soldier in the 2025 Spring Volunteer Campaign. "After graduating, I will not have the opportunity to volunteer in Vietnam. I want to spend the year-end vacation doing something meaningful and learning more good things," Vongonkeo Manychan shared.

More than 2.6 billion VND to take care of students during Tet
Dr. Cao Anh Tuan, vice principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that this program is not only an annual volunteer activity but also carries a clear message that "no student is left behind".
Humanity has always been one of the three core values and educational philosophy of the school, along with quality and creativity with learners at the center of the development strategy.
Mr. Tuan said that there are still many students who are in difficulty or due to various circumstances cannot return home to be with their families during Tet. Therefore, the school has implemented many activities such as giving Tet gifts, bonding programs, creating a space for students to feel the warmth and affection during the New Year.
The program was organized by more than 500 students who are the school's 2025 Spring Volunteer Soldiers. 122 disadvantaged students who could not return home for Tet received gifts, including 7 Laotian students studying at the school who were also supported on this occasion.
The total value of this year's program is 2,641 billion VND, including English scholarships, Tet bus tickets (1 million VND/ticket), Tet gifts and lucky money.
