According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in March reached more than 477 million USD , up 52.1% over the previous month.
However, in the first 3 months of the year, fruit and vegetable exports only reached 1.16 billion USD , down 9.4% year-on-year.
Specifically, Vietnam's largest fruit and vegetable export market, China, only brought in more than 521 million USD and decreased by 31.3% compared to the same period last year. China's tightening of the O-yellow quality inspection for durian has caused the export of this item in particular and the fruit and vegetable industry's turnover in general to China to decrease.
Meanwhile, the US spends up to 111 million USD to import Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in the first quarter, up 65% over the same period in 2024. This is also the second largest market in terms of imported Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in the first 3 months of the year.
Share with Knowledge - Znews , Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that recently, new products such as fresh coconut, grapefruit and processed goods from Vietnam have increased their market share in the US, so the export turnover of fruits and vegetables to this country has also improved.
At the same time, American consumers increasingly favor Vietnamese agricultural products because their quality has clearly improved.
Currently, businesses exporting fruits and vegetables to the US are taking advantage of the 90-day reciprocal tax suspension to increase exports.
However, fruit and vegetable exports to the US market only account for 4-5% of Vietnam's total annual fruit and vegetable export turnover.
"This is not a very large number, so businesses can flexibly expand to new markets such as the EU, Korea... However, businesses need to pay attention and meet all the standards and technical barriers set by the host country so that the export of goods can take place normally," said Mr. Nguyen.
In 2024, Vietnam will export to the US 360 million USD vegetables and fruits, while the import turnover of vegetables and fruits from this country amounted to 540 million USD . In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam spent more than 160 million USD Fruit and vegetable imports from the US increased by 55.4% over the same period last year.
