The content of salary and benefits policies for teachers continues to be mentioned in the Draft Law on Teachers. In addition to teachers' salaries being ranked highest in the administrative career salary scale, the draft also includes content that has a priority regime in salary and allowances higher than other teachers at the preschool level, working in particularly difficult areas.
Regarding the Draft Law on Teachers, the Ministry of Education and Training said that it is currently coordinating with the National Assembly's Committee on Culture andEducation to complete the dossier to submit to the National Assembly for consideration and approval at the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly in 2025.
Teachers confidently live on their salary
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Kien, Principal of Secondary School No. 1 in Thuong Ha Commune, Bao Yen District (Lao Cai) said that teachers are looking forward to the National Assembly passing the Draft Law on Teachers. Right in Thuong Ha commune, there are 6 schools at preschool, primary and secondary levels, of which the preschool has a school 25 kilometers away from the town center, with difficult roads.
“Teachers go to school every morning and come back at night, but their income is not much. Therefore, if there is a reform in the salary regime that cannot be implemented in the whole industry, then prioritizing preschool education is necessary and reasonable,” said Mr. Kien.
According to the principal of Thuong Ha Secondary School No. 1, along with the innovation and progress of society, education is increasingly concerned, the teaching profession is under more pressure due to expectations from family and society. To have good students, there must be good teachers and salaries that meet life. When implementing the new general education program, Lao Cai lacks teachers for new subjects such as Information Technology and foreign languages. From 2024, the province has had a very good special attraction policy, which is a subsidy of 150 million/teacher for the above subjects with the condition of signing a minimum 5-year continuous working contract.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung, a History-Geography teacher at a secondary school in Ha Tinh, shared that since July 1, along with the increase in the basic salary, teachers' salaries have been significantly increased. However, compared to the current living standards, a family with 2 school-age children still has to struggle every month, struggling to make ends meet. Some teachers have had to work many extra jobs outside of teaching hours, which will affect their work to some extent. Therefore, she and other teachers expect and hope for a salary increase to ensure their lives.
In addition, Ms. Dung also said that in 2025, she hopes that the Education sector will review the new General Education program to make reasonable adjustments to the difficult and inadequate contents. Especially in the integrated subject, after 4 years of implementation at the secondary level, there are still problems and difficulties that need to be resolved.
