Báo Pháp Luật Việt NamBáo Pháp Luật Việt Nam10/02/2024

Many airlines are in good health

According to the Ministry of Transport (MOT), in 2023, the total air passenger transport market will reach nearly 74 million passengers, an increase of 34.5% compared to 2022. It is expected that in 2024, the Vietnamese aviation market will grow more strongly than in 2023.

This assessment is well-founded as after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese aviation industry has strongly recovered. By 2023, the number of domestic passengers will basically be equal to 2019, the time before the pandemic. International customers are also recovering strongly, it is expected that in 2024, the number of international passengers to Vietnam will be equal to the time before the pandemic. International transportation is gradually recovering with more than 61 foreign airlines and 5 Vietnamese airlines operating 147 international routes connecting Vietnam with 28 countries and territories... According to the Ministry of Transport , the high growth of passenger and cargo transport is the main driving force for aviation businesses to "recover".

Assessing the aviation market in 2024, Mr. Le Hong Ha - General Director of Vietnam Airlines said that the world aviation market will recover to near the pre-COVID-19 period. In that context, in 2024, Vietnam Airlines has built a high-scenario plan to be ready to serve the market. The airline will open more Vietnam - China routes, and at the same time monitor market developments to adjust the supply capacity.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa - Chairman of Vietnam Airlines said that the unit is gradually overcoming challenges to develop and recover. In particular, the airline focuses on implementing a restructuring project, with solutions aimed at balancing business revenue and expenditure from 2024.

The fact that the "big brother" of the Vietnamese aviation industry can balance its revenue and expenditure in 2024 is good news, because for 3 consecutive years (2020 - 2022), this unit has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, the situation of revenue not covering expenditure still occurs at Vietnam Airlines when the consolidated loss is more than 5,500 billion VND.

Vietjet Air is also on the path of strong recovery. In addition to domestic routes that have basically covered all major routes, the airline is continuously opening new international routes. To date, Vietjet has nearly 100 international routes, of which 7 new routes were opened in the third quarter of 2023 alone. On the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024, the airline welcomed 4 new aircraft, bringing the total number of aircraft in its fleet to more than 100. The increase in the number of aircraft is to increase transportation capacity and meet the increased demand during Lunar New Year as well as throughout 2024.

For Bamboo Airways, although 2023 faced many difficulties due to changes in senior leadership, after restructuring and eliminating many low-potential routes, it is now stable in terms of both personnel and development direction. During the Lunar New Year 2024, the airline will receive two Airbus A320 aircraft to serve the peak Tet holiday.

After 5 years of taking off, Bamboo Airways has gradually positioned its name on the domestic aviation map with outstanding service quality, a wide flight network and many positive contributions to socio-economic development. Bamboo Airways is also the airline that continuously maintains its leading position in the domestic aviation industry in terms of on-time flights, and is also one of the airlines with the lowest rate of delayed and canceled flights.

In 2024, Bamboo Airways said it will promote the development of flight products with better prices, targeting customers with diverse incomes and small and medium enterprises. Regarding the operation plan, Bamboo Airways will focus on covering the domestic aviation market, in addition to operating some international flights in the form of charter flights.

Aviation infrastructure is heavily invested

Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is the unit assigned to be the investor to implement projects at many airports across the country. In 2023, this unit has an impressive business situation. Accordingly, the total number of passengers reached 113.5 million, an increase of 15% compared to 2022, of which international passengers: 32.6 million passengers, an increase of 173% compared to 2022. The total number of parcels and cargo throughput reached 1,207 thousand tons. The total number of landings and take-offs reached 710 thousand flights. ACV's revenue in 2023 reached more than 20,000 billion VND, bringing in pre-tax profit of more than 8,600 billion VND, an increase of 14% compared to 2022. Financial indicators are maintained healthily, ensuring growth and development of State equity.

In 2024, ACV targets passenger volume of about 118 million people, an increase of 3.3% compared to 2023, of which international passengers will be 39 million, an increase of 16.8% compared to 2023; domestic passengers will be 79 million, reaching 98% compared to 2023; and parcel cargo will be 1,332 thousand tons, an increase of 8.5% compared to 2023. Revenue and profit will increase in line with these targets.

ACV's stable development will be the basis for this unit to implement a series of aviation infrastructure projects in 2024. In 2024, the unit will continue to invest in a series of important aviation projects, many of which are national key projects, of great significance to the country's socio-economic development.

Specifically, ACV continues to implement two important bidding packages of the Long Thanh International Airport construction investment project: "Construction and installation of equipment for the Passenger Terminal" and "Construction, installation of equipment and design of construction drawings for the runway, taxiway, aircraft parking lot and other works", with a total contract value of more than VND 43,100 billion.

In addition, in 2024, ACV will continue to complete the package "Construction and installation of equipment for Passenger Terminal T3 - Tan Son Nhat International Airport", with a total project value of more than VND 10,000 billion. Some other projects will also be implemented by ACV in 2024 such as: Terminal T2 - Cat Bi International Airport, Passenger Terminal T2 - Dong Hoi Airport.

In parallel with investment in developing the aviation infrastructure system, ACV also focuses on implementing information technology (IT) projects according to the digital transformation roadmap, such as: Investment project to upgrade the shared passenger check-in IT system at T2 International Terminal - Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports, server room IT system at T3 Terminal - Tan Son Nhat International Airport; project to deploy AI Camera for facial recognition for check-in systems at airports; investment project for information security monitoring system of IT systems...

According to a representative of the Ministry of Transport, in 2024, Noi Bai International Terminal T2 will be expanded, increasing its capacity from 10 to 15 million passengers per year. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, increasing the total capacity of Noi Bai Airport from the current 25 million passengers to 30 million. In addition, the Ministry of Transport said that Da Nang Airport is also preparing resources to invest in expanding Passenger Terminal T1 and building a new Terminal T3 after the airport's planning is approved.

With a series of aviation infrastructure projects being invested in, the overload situation at major airports is gradually improving. This is the basis for the aviation industry to continue to develop strongly in the coming time.
