Hanoi has the largest number of candidates taking the exam.
In 2024, statistics from the Testing Center show that 1,035/2,970 high schools have students participating (the whole country has 2,465 public high schools, 505 private high schools); 53/64 provinces/cities have students participating in the HSA exam.
Statistics on the number of candidates in provinces and cities taking the exam in 2024 show that Hanoi has the highest number of candidates registered for the exam, followed by Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Nghe An, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang,... The total number of registrations in 2024 is 104,575, of which 96.2% attended the exam.
The furthest candidates come from Vinh Long, An Giang , Ninh Thuan, Dak Nong.
It is known that the 2024 High School Student Competency Assessment (HSA) test of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) consists of 3 parts: Part 1 - Mathematics and data processing (50 questions, 75 minutes); Part 2 - Language - Literature (50 questions, 60 minutes); Part 3 - Science (50 questions, 60 minutes).
The total score of the test is 150, the official test time is 195 minutes. The number of candidates taking the test in 2024 is 100,633/104,575 candidates.
Regarding the test score distribution, the highest score of the 2024 exam was 129/150; the lowest was 17/150; the average score was 76.5/150. The average and median scores have been relatively stable over the past three years, although the number of candidates taking the HSA has increased by about 15-25% each year.
The two female students with the highest score of 129/150 were Nguyen Thanh Ngoc (Kim Lien High School/Hanoi) and Nguyen Mai Truc (Chuong My A High School/Hanoi); the next two candidates with the same score of 128/150 were Tran Duy Hung (Nguyen Du High School/Thai Binh) and a student from Ninh Binh; followed by two candidates with 127/150 were Tran Thi Nguyen Ha (Nguyen Du High School/Thai Binh) and Hoang Van Hoa (Vinh Chan High School/Phu Tho).
Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh have the highest scores in the country.
In 2024, the Testing Center compiled the exam results of candidates from 15 northern provinces and cities with over 2,000 students taking the exam and arranged them in order of average score as follows:
According to the above statistical table on the comparison score which is the average score of the candidates taking the exam, Nam Dinh has replaced Ninh Binh in 2023 as the province with the highest average score among the provinces and cities compared based on the average HSA score in 2024, followed by Vinh Phuc, Thai Binh... although Hanoi is the province with the lowest average score of 75.5, the number of candidates taking the exam in Hanoi is 5-8 times larger than the remaining provinces. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao said that the order of the 15 provinces and cities has changed a lot compared to the ranking according to the graduation exam score in 2024.

Regarding the HSA exam score distribution according to high schools, the exam results of high schools with the number of candidates taking the exam per 100 students determine the relative rankings.
Topping the 2024 statistics is Bac Ninh Specialized High School (the high school with students winning the 2024 Chemistry Olympiad gold medal), followed by Vinh Phuc Specialized High School and Hanoi Pedagogical High School... For 2 consecutive years, Hanoi Pedagogical High School has been in the top 3 schools with the highest HSA exam scores.
