Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that the Department is researching and implementing a Geographic Information System (GIS) digital map, expected to be applied for the 2026-2027 school year. This will help calculate the distance from home to school, creating more favorable conditions for students and parents in traveling. At that time, students will be assigned to admission routes according to the positioning system of the digital map.

“Through the positioning system, students can enroll in schools near their actual residence. This way, students will be able to attend schools near their homes instead of being assigned to wards as is currently the case. This will help reduce the burden on families, students and teachers,” said the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

Mr. Cuong said that in the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, more schools will be built in Hanoi, the number of classrooms, facilities and teaching aids will also increase.

This year, through screening, about 64% of 9th graders were admitted to public high schools in the area, an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year. This is the first year that 9th graders follow the 2018 GeneralEducation Program.

This school year, Hanoi has about 127,000 students taking the exam for recognition of secondary school graduation and registering for admission to grade 10. "This year, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, at the same time, provinces/cities must announce the exam scores of candidates and the benchmark scores of high schools," said Mr. Cuong.

However, according to the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, basically, the enrollment work for the first grade classes in the area this year has not changed compared to last year.

“In previous years, in a few schools, there was a phenomenon of parents lining up in front of the gate, 'reserving bricks' to register their children for admission. Therefore, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has directed all facilities in the area, including public and private schools, to apply digital transformation in education and online admission for all primary school students. This year, we continue to maintain this to strengthen the campaign for parents not to create pressure that affects public opinion about the beauty of schools in the current context,” said Mr. Cuong.

Regarding admission to high-quality schools or schools with a number of applications exceeding the quota, Mr. Cuong said that the Department has issued a document guiding schools to implement the admission method according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and can combine the use of student assessment criteria in the form of writing, questions and answers, etc.
