Brave to save people in fire
This young man recounted that while he was lying down surfing social networks and preparing to sleep, he heard a few loud explosions, and people around him shouted that there was a fire. Seeing that, this young man quickly ran to the fire area to coordinate with people around to help rescue people. That young man is Hoang Anh Tuan (21 years old), working in Hanoi , one of the individuals receiving the "Beautiful Youth" award in 2024.
Tuan, another young man and people nearby climbed a ladder to the upper floor of the burning house, then broke the wall next to the window, trying to save the trapped victims. "Seeing people in trouble, I didn't think much but climbed up to find a way to save them," Tuan said.

Tuan and the locals had to connect two ladders together to get enough length to climb up and break the wall. When they reached the window where the victim was calling for help, Tuan helped hold another young man tightly to have the strength to smash the hammer into the wall. “About 5 minutes later, the wall broke and the victim was rescued,” Tuan recounted.
“While holding the ladder, I was hit in the head by some broken bricks. People threw me a helmet to ensure my safety. I was able to hug a child and help two adults escape,” Tuan shared.
At the time of the fire, Tuan had just completed his military service at Regiment 209, Song Cong City, Thai Nguyen Province. Tuan said that his military service had trained him in endurance and first aid skills, which made it easier to rescue people in fires. After completing his military service, Tuan went to Hanoi to learn auto repair.
At the age of 2, Tuan lost his mother, his father also worked far away so he lived with his grandfather since childhood. Tuan has a younger brother who is 1 year younger, family life is not very well off. “Since childhood, I was not close to my father and mother so I felt very sad. The two brothers never had a full meal with all family members. Family life also encountered many difficulties. The two brothers only knew how to advise each other to grow up”, Tuan said.

As one of the individuals awarded the “Beautiful Youth” award in 2024, Tuan said he felt surprised and proud. “I think there are many young people who are more dedicated and talented. I am very happy that my contribution has been recognized. The award is a great motivation for me to try to improve myself and do many good things for the community,” Tuan said.
Previously, Tuan also received the "Brave Youth" Badge from the Central Youth Union; Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee for his bravery in saving people in the fire at Lane 43 Trung Kinh, Cau Giay District (Hanoi)...

“I hope that young people will spread the spirit of mutual love and support, and be willing to help those in need. Each young person should strive to study and develop themselves to become good citizens and make positive contributions to society,” Tuan shared.
The 2024 “Beautiful Youth” Award is organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union in collaboration with TCP Vietnam Company Limited. The award ceremony will take place in October 2024 in Hanoi.
