The diverse and vibrant activities took place in a warm and sincere atmosphere, exchanging practical ideas and conveying the image of a dynamic, open, and confident Vietnam, ready for an era of further development.

Rhythm of Integration

The working visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the United States coincides with the one-year anniversary of the upgrading of relations between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and looks forward to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States.

Vietnamese representative offices in the United States organized a celebratory event, which included a program called "Connecting Through Art." Musical works with a cultural exchange theme were performed, including an impressive piece titled "Pho," composed specifically for the program by composer and saxophonist Henry Threadgill.

When the music with that very Vietnamese name played, its powerful, free-spirited jazz melody delighted the audience, who felt a fresh rhythm of exchange. Perhaps this is also the rhythm of Vietnam's integration in this new era: independent, self-reliant, confident, open to dialogue and exchange, and striving for further progress.

Tony Bui, a Vietnamese-American artist, shared his feelings: "Art has a tremendous power of connection. Each performance is a blend of classical and modern, Eastern and Western, like a thread on the multicolored tapestry we are weaving together—a tapestry representing connection, understanding, and a shared future."

At this event, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the Vietnam-US relationship is a rare journey; over the past 30 years, the two sides have joined hands to create a historical highlight, a model in international relations, like a beautiful painting woven by the contributions and efforts of many people, including prominent leaders and those unsung heroes whose faces and names are not yet fully known.

If we liken each action, however small, to a thread, when woven together, they will create a picture of the future, weaving extraordinary things. Bilateral relations are developing steadily and substantively, bringing even more benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and internationally.

During the meetings, the General Secretary and President consistently emphasized the need for both sides to strengthen contacts and exchanges of delegations at the high level; to make cooperation in high-tech science and technology (semiconductors, AI) and training of high-quality human resources a strategic breakthrough in bilateral relations; to continue prioritizing cooperation in addressing the consequences of war; and to enhance dialogue in a frank, constructive spirit, sharing interests and legitimate concerns of each other…

To realize that message, during the Vietnamese high-level delegation's stay in New York, the General Secretary, the President, and other official members held meetings with representatives of major economic groups and investment funds in the US; and met and exchanged views with many leading businesses in the country and Vietnamese businesses abroad.

Nick Ammann, Vice President of Apple Corporation, highly appreciated the investment prospects and stated that Vietnam is not only a great market but also a key manufacturing hub for Apple to supply its goods to the world. Many of Apple's key products are now manufactured in Vietnam, and thanks to the support of the Vietnamese government, the corporation is developing and expanding its production.

According to Wally Liaw, founder and senior vice president of business development at Supermicro, Vietnam is a market with great potential, especially given its policies encouraging the development of high-tech fields. He highly values the development opportunities in Vietnam and is committed to continuing cooperation with Vietnam to support its customers in particular, and Vietnam in general, in developing AI.

Jake Siewert, CEO of Warburg Pincus, one of the oldest and largest private equity funds globally, stated that Vietnam has become Warburg Pincus's third-largest investment destination in Asia (after China and India). He expressed his desire to explore and further invest, and hoped that the Vietnamese side would actively engage in dialogue to resolve any obstacles.

New York – one of the world's fastest-paced cities – is even more bustling these days with the arrival of delegations from United Nations member states. The high-level Vietnamese delegation, with its many diverse and enriching activities, has also joined this vibrant atmosphere, thereby affirming Vietnam's independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.

Aspiration to reach further

Speaking at the plenary session of the Summit on the Future, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed: Vietnam is committed to making positive and effective contributions to common efforts to build a peaceful world, with equitable development, and for the prosperous and happy lives of humanity.

In reality, to fulfill that commitment, the country's economy must develop, first and foremost to ensure a better life for the people, and then to have the capacity to contribute to the overall development of humanity. The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identified the development of human resources, especially high-quality human resources, as one of the three strategic breakthroughs, alongside improving institutions and developing infrastructure, to ensure the country's rapid and sustainable development goals in the coming period.

The socio-economic development strategy for the period 2011-2030 also clearly stated: Comprehensive development of human resources, science and technology, and innovation, linked with fostering the aspiration for national development, national pride, self-reliance, and promoting the cultural values and human resources of Vietnam.

To achieve that strategic goal, during their time in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam and members of the delegation held working sessions with Columbia University, a leading educational institution in the US, and met with Vietnamese experts, scholars, and intellectuals in the US to exchange experiences, inspire cooperation, and promote investment and contributions to Vietnam.

The General Secretary and President shared with experts and scholars the major orientations for Vietnam's socio-economic development in the coming period, focusing on building, perfecting, and comprehensively reforming the country's development institutions; strongly developing science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of the economy; and continuing fundamental, comprehensive, effective, and substantive reforms in education and training, focusing on developing high-quality human resources for priority and emerging sectors.

The remarks by Vietnamese Party and State leaders attracted the attention of experts and scholars, while also inspiring Vietnamese intellectuals and business owners abroad with ideas for investing in technology and resources for the country. Experts and scholars at Columbia University all assessed that Vietnam has the potential to maintain a high-growth economy based on growth drivers such as high-tech industries, innovation, and an improved investment environment.

Many believe that the government needs to play a guiding and leading role, using infrastructure as a foundation and the private sector as one of the driving forces for Vietnam to promote the development of the technology sector, especially artificial intelligence... Mr. Vu Van Le, a Vietnamese intellectual living in Houston (Texas, USA), expressed his emotion upon learning that the Party and State of Vietnam prioritize economic development and strengthen the attraction of resources for growth.

He stated that in the US, every professional field has talented Vietnamese people, from engineers and doctors to experts in technology, science, and artificial intelligence. They all aspire to contribute practically to the development of their respective fields in the country, helping to usher the nation into a new era of development.

During the meeting with representatives of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States, the enthusiasm and passion of many young people were evident. They stated that the Network will continue to implement activities to support startups, aiming to build a startup community, share knowledge to grow together, contribute to development in their host country, and promote the startup ecosystem in Vietnam. Thousands of businesses have already participated in the Network's activities.

Many members have come to Vietnam to start businesses or relocate their company headquarters back to their home country, not only bringing economic benefits but also contributing to technology transfer to domestic businesses and creating many jobs for workers. Some experts who are members of the Semiconductor Industry Development Experience Sharing Network have expressed their desire to introduce more businesses to invest in Vietnam.

General Secretary and President To Lam's first working trip to the United States to participate in multilateral diplomatic activities and work also marked the first time a Vietnamese General Secretary and President directly attended high-level sessions at the United Nations General Assembly. This trip attracted significant attention from friendly countries, international organizations, and businesses, who sought opportunities for exchange and sharing. Through this, Vietnam enhanced its image, prestige, and position on the international stage.

With the country's new strength and position; with the perspective that developing internal strengths is fundamental, strategic, and long-term, and the decisive factor; and external forces and contemporary factors are important and breakthrough elements, Vietnam is ready for a new historical starting point, a new era, an era of national resurgence.
