In 2025, the global economy is expected to recover better than anticipated but still faces risks from trade protectionism, geopolitical tensions, and climate change, significantly impacting the rubber industry. Amidst market volatility and declining confidence, the Vietnamese rubber industry must cope with numerous pressures related to trade, costs, and the need for a green transition.

Increasing extreme weather events, US tariffs, exchange rate fluctuations, rising logistics and energy costs, and cautious sentiment from producers and importers could hinder the recovery of rubber prices. In particular, the shift towards alternative materials or synthetic rubber, as well as the development of environmentally friendly transportation (electric vehicles), are long-term factors impacting the demand for natural rubber.

Against this backdrop, the Vietnamese rubber industry remains steadfast in its strategic goals and has achieved many encouraging results. Exports in 2025 are projected to reach US$11.6 billion, an increase of approximately 3% compared to 2024, including over US$3.2 billion for natural rubber, approximately US$5.3 billion for rubber products, and over US$3.1 billion for rubber wood.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Thanh Hung, Chairman of VRA and General Director of Vietnam Rubber Industry Group, shared: "Even amidst challenges, opportunities remain if the rubber industry effectively utilizes sustainable trends. Key orientations include: promoting green transformation and traceability; innovating technology to reduce emissions, increasing linkages with localities and farmers; diversifying markets and promoting deep-processed products; and proactively monitoring policy changes to adjust plans. With these efforts, the Vietnamese rubber industry has the foundation to consolidate its position and make a more sustainable contribution to the economy ."

Mr. Le Hoang Tai, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade , acknowledged and highly appreciated the coordination and efforts of the Vietnam Rubber Association and the business community in the industry over the past period.

Mr. Tai stated: “The period from 2026 to 2030 is expected to present many new opportunities, including increased demand in the Middle East, India, and Africa; continued expansion of tariff reductions under FTAs; and the ongoing trend of supply chain shifts in the region. The Trade Promotion Agency will continue to cooperate with the rubber industry in programs to support businesses in leveraging FTA benefits, expanding markets, developing brands, and building supply chains that meet green and sustainable requirements.”

At the conference, VRA honored 23 members who had successfully implemented the Vietnam Rubber Brand 2025 and 12 members who achieved the Sustainable Enterprise 2025 title. VRA also called on businesses to join hands in supporting people affected by the recent floods in Central and Central Highlands regions, with a total donation of nearly 1.16 billion VND.
