Hot weather across the country.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this is the first time in 2023 that a heatwave has occurred nationwide. This is also the first widespread heatwave in the Northeast region and the capital city of Hanoi .

Specifically, from May 4th onwards, the Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen experienced hot and intensely hot weather, with some places experiencing exceptionally intense heat with maximum temperatures of 36-39 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Particularly in the areas of Muong La, Yen Chau, and Phu Yen (Son La), temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in many places, as did Hoa Binh at 40.5 degrees Celsius, Quy Chau ( Nghe An ) at 40.8 degrees Celsius, and Tuong Duong (Nghe An) at 41.7 degrees Celsius, etc.

Today (May 5th), temperatures in these areas continued to rise, reaching the highest levels of this heatwave. However, temperatures were lower in the Northeast, Central Highlands, and Southern regions, ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.

Notably, the northeastern region of Vietnam will experience hot and intensely hot weather on May 6th, with maximum temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celsius, and even exceeding 38 degrees Celsius in some areas; the lowest humidity will be 40-55%.

The hottest periods in these areas mainly occur between 11 am and 5 pm; especially in the Northwest region and from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen on May 5-6, when temperatures in many places exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, this period lasted from 10 am to 6 pm.

Meteorological experts predict that intense, and in some places exceptionally intense, hot weather in the Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen is likely to last until May 7th. The heat in the Northeast region, Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam will gradually decrease from May 7th.

Northwestern region

Cloudy skies, hot and intensely hot days, exceptionally hot in some areas; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Light winds. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Lowest temperature: 24-27 degrees Celsius, some places below 23 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature: 35-38 degrees Celsius, some places above 39 degrees Celsius.

Northeastern Vietnam

Cloudy skies, hot weather during the day, intensely hot in some areas; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Southeast to south winds, force 2-3.

Lowest temperature: 25-28 degrees Celsius, some places below 24 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature: 34-37 degrees Celsius, some places above 37 degrees Celsius.

Thanh Hoa - Thua Thien Hue

Lowest temperature: 26-29 degrees. Highest temperature: 35-38 degrees, with some areas exceeding 39 degrees.

Da Nang to Binh Thuan

Cloudy with sunny periods; particularly hot and intensely hot in the North; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Light winds. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Lowest temperature: 25-28 degrees. Highest temperature: 32-35 degrees, 35-37 in the North, and over 37 degrees in some places.

Central Highlands

Cloudy, sunny days, hot in some areas; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Light winds. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Lowest temperature: 21-24 degrees. Highest temperature: 32-35 degrees, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees.

Southern Vietnam

Cloudy skies, hot weather, intensely hot in some areas; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Light winds. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Lowest temperature: 26-29 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature: 34-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas in the East exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi

Cloudy, hot during the day, intensely hot in some areas; no rain at night. Southeast to south winds, force 2-3.

Lowest temperature: 26-28 degrees. Highest temperature: 35-37 degrees.
