On August 14th, the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) organized a seminar titled "Elevating the Value of the VITA Green Green Tourism Brand to Become an International Trademark," discussing solutions to elevate the green tourism brand to a global level.
Green trends in tourism
According to Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, green tourism is a global trend and also the direction that the Vietnamese tourism industry has identified in its sustainable development goals.
"International tourists highly favor nature-based tourism that minimizes environmental emissions. Therefore, Vietnam's tourism industry needs to promote green tourism to enhance its global brand value and effectively attract high-end tourists," Mr. Binh stated.
Since 2019, the Vietnam Tourism Association has launched activities to promote and develop green tourism. The Association has also developed green tourism criteria and is beginning to implement them.
Currently, 30 businesses have been granted green tourism certification, and it is expected that around 100 businesses will have received it by the end of the year.
According to Lai Quoc Tinh, Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Tourism Association, currently, the former Ha Giang and present-day Tuyen Quang have only one place that has achieved the green tourism label, and that is H'mong Village.
Mr. Tinh expressed his desire to create a green travel route on the rocky plateau, bringing tourists to pristine villages.
"For green tourism to be just an environmental issue, it must also be sustainable and community-oriented. To achieve this, tourism practices must bring benefits and livelihoods to ethnic communities by honoring and preserving their indigenous cultural identity," Mr. Tinh said.

Green tourism is our mission.
As a travel company that consistently develops tourism products in line with green trends, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Deputy Director of Vietluxtour, believes that the role of travel agencies is crucial in building a globally recognized green tourism brand.
"Units need to prioritize designing green, environmentally friendly tours. Currently, we are developing tours to protect sea turtles; tours to plant trees and pick up trash to protect the environment; and tours using metro trains..."
"We are implementing a green transition through our company's operations. The company office doesn't use plastic bottles, and we conduct battery-for-product exchange campaigns… to reduce plastic waste," Ms. Huong shared.
At the seminar, Mr. Phung Quang Thang - chairman of the Vietnam Green Tourism Association (VITA) - provided information on the draft plan to elevate the brand of green tourism in Vietnam.
Accordingly, it is necessary to build an internationally standardized brand identity, including a unified logo and slogan with both English and Vietnamese versions; develop a network of businesses that meet the VITA GREEN criteria; create a model green tourism ecosystem domestically, using businesses that effectively apply the criteria as global communication models...
