If you are bad at cooking, learn. If you keep cooking, it will be delicious, just like your mother's cooking!

'My friend loves to cook, but other people can't eat it'. That's what Nguyen Thi Dieu Thuy (28 years old) said about her close friend's cooking skills.

Ms. Thuy is one of many people who believe that if the food is not delicious and does not change, it is best not to cook, because 1-2 meals is fine, but if you have to eat it every day, it will be torture.

Bad cooking is due to carelessness, not clumsiness.

"Once, her father had to stay in the hospital for more than ten days in Ho Chi Minh City. She has a younger sister who also works here, so they both took turns going to the hospital. The first few days, she also woke up early to go to the market, cook and bring food to the hospital for her mother and sister, because she was afraid that the two of them would not enjoy eating boxed meals.

But just 2 days later, she came back with a downcast face and said that her mother told her not to bother cooking anymore because she couldn't eat, so she bought noodles and pho to eat to avoid getting bored," Ms. Thuy continued her close friend's story.

According to her, her best friend is a good cook, partly to save money, but also because she is overweight, she usually cooks very simply to lose weight.

"My friend often boils vegetables, boils eggs, boils chicken... In short, she often eats boiled food to reduce fat, and also to reduce cholesterol, because her health check results always show high cholesterol.

Maybe because of her cooking habits, when she needs to cook something in a hurry, she often cooks anything that seems reasonable. For example, the simplest thing is to add sugar, salt, and spices to a dish, she does it at will," Thuy said.

Ms. Thuy believes that whether or not cooking is delicious depends on luck, but it will be very difficult to make it delicious if you do not cook regularly and change and adjust. Because according to her, delicious dishes also require practice, experience, seasoning, cooking time...

"Everything has to start, and cooking is no exception. At first, you may cook poorly or fail, but the more you cook, the more experience you will gain. If you need to cook quickly and haven't cooked before, it's best to look up a recipe online, instead of cooking based on your feelings," Thuy shared her experience.

Agreeing that cooking requires attention, cooking haphazardly will not be delicious, Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh (30 years old) said that to cook well, one must pay attention to one's own taste and that of the person eating with him, as well as have a certain level of meticulousness.

“If I am too busy and cook haphazardly, it will be worse. But at times like that, I have to accept it. When I have time, I always try to cook as thoroughly as possible, taking more care to make the food more delicious,” he shared.

He also agrees that those who cook regularly will cook better. “If you only cook occasionally and still cook according to the “ancestors’ instructions” and don’t bother to learn the recipe, 90% of the time it will be bad.

There is a reason why people have cookbooks, or that cuisine is called culinary culture. Cooking is very rich, but if you are too creative, it is a matter of luck,” he added.

Cooking is a life skill that everyone needs to learn.

Minh is said by his wife to be a better cook than his wife. Talking about the reason why he is a man but knows how to cook, he said that in his house, whoever is free will cook, and there is no division of responsibility between the wife and the husband.

“My wife works at a school, leaving early and coming home late. My job is more flexible, I mainly manage my own time, so at home I cook more than my wife,” he shared.

Although he doesn't mind cooking, Minh believes that everyone should know how to cook. Even if it's not something fancy, basic dishes will do.

In his opinion, it is unacceptable for a person, regardless of gender, to know nothing about cooking.

“I think cooking is a life skill that everyone needs to learn. In a family of two, if the wife is stuck, the husband cooks, if the husband is stuck, the wife cooks. Whoever has the time can do it, but you can’t rely on the other person.

Imagine coming home from work sick and tired but still having to cook, it would be several times more tiring," he said.

Ms. Y Nhi (35 years old) also believes that no one can't cook or doesn't know how to cook.

“Cooking can be learned. The important thing is whether you want to learn it or not. I think cooking is a habit. Any habit takes time to form and maintain. If you want to cook, you have to start cooking and be patient to maintain it.

After a while, it will become a habit. When the habit is formed, even when you can't cook and have to eat out, you will feel uncomfortable," she said.

Growing up in a poor family, she only helped her mother cook very simple dishes, with almost no cooking skills.

“After finishing high school, I chose to study culinary arts. At that time, it was still required to study a trade to be eligible to graduate. While my friends studied photography and computers, I studied cooking. Later, I found it beneficial. But unfortunately, it seems that it is no longer required to study that trade.”
