In recent years, the Vietnamese Government has actively promoted digital transformation in the financial sector through specific policies such as Project 06 – cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security and the State Bank to exploit population data and electronic identification – along with Circular 50 regulating requirements for biometric identification and authentication.

According to a global report by PwC, artificial intelligence (AI) can help increase work efficiency in the finance and banking industry by nearly 40%, while cutting costs and improving customer experience. Another report by Gartner also shows that more than 90% of bank leaders worldwide consider AI an investment priority by 2027, affirming the strategic role of this technology in digital transformation of the financial industry.

At the workshop on AI applications to enhance the capacity of the financial sector, Mr. Vu Thanh Tung - GreenNode Product Director - emphasized that AI is not simply a technology story, but a tool to create practical value for customers: from improving user experience, preventing fraud to optimizing operations. He believes that with the available technical foundation, Vietnamese businesses can completely develop breakthrough solutions in areas such as smart document processing and electronic identification.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh – Head of the Vietnam Banks Association Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City – affirmed that the application of AI is the key to helping banks create a breakthrough in the digital age. However, this process requires a long-term strategy and thorough investment.

Representing the technology sector, Mr. Le Hong Minh - Founder and Chairman of VNG - said that the company started to orient towards AI from the beginning of 2023, realizing that this technology will create more profound changes than any previous trend.

“AI is a vast field, but assembling resources and deploying it into a specific product is still a difficult problem,” said Mr. Minh.

He also shared VNG's consistent viewpoint: "Only when we start doing it, will we truly understand. If we just sit and research forever, it will be like standing in front of the vast ocean without knowing the direction."

Since mid-2023, VNG has been implementing a series of AI-related activities, including developing GreenNode infrastructure – one of the most efficient GPU platforms in Southeast Asia – and serving global customers. After that, the company invested in two teams to build large language models, and closely followed open source trends to perform fine-tuning to improve practical applications.

VNG is also actively developing AI-enabled platforms to serve both internal and customer needs. In the next phase, the company calls on all business segments to participate in AI applications.

“Our principle is to just do it, do it a lot, no matter how small. The most important thing is whether customers can use it or not, not setting profit goals right away,” Mr. Minh emphasized.

By the end of 2024, about 20% of Zalo users had used AI application features. VNG aims to double this rate by the end of 2025. The company also encourages all employees from departments – from gaming to finance – to experiment with AI in their products.

Mr. Minh believes that AI is a long-term journey that requires patience and should not expect immediate profits. “We do not think we can create a revolutionary project like OpenAI or Elon Musk, but if we persist in applying, learning and continuously improving, we believe we will create real value,” he said.

He also said that he personally aims for every job in 2024 and 2025 to be related to AI, and expects this spirit to spread throughout the organization.

“If each individual proactively applies AI, I believe it will create a wave of change – not only in Vietnam but globally,” he concluded.
