On September 22, in New York, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and conducting bilateral activities in the United States.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the New York City government and people for their warm welcome to the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation. The Prime Minister congratulated the New York City government on overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and quickly recovering and developing its socio -economic situation. The Prime Minister shared that New York holds many historical moments in the Vietnam-US relationship, being the place where President Ho Chi Minh came to work and also the place where the Vietnamese flag was raised at the United Nations Headquarters in 1977.

The Prime Minister said that the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries will create many new opportunities for more substantive and extensive bilateral cooperation. The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting cooperation with New York, the world's leading commercial and financial center, and will ensure the interests of investors and businesses from the United States in general and New York in particular in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the strong and substantive developments in the cooperative relationship between New York City and Vietnamese agencies and localities, including educational and training cooperation with over 1,500 Vietnamese students studying and researching at universities in New York State.

Emphasizing that New York City is one of the areas with a large Vietnamese community living, studying and working, the Prime Minister thanked the New York City government for its attention to the Vietnamese community in the country and said that there is still a lot of room to promote multifaceted cooperation between New York and Vietnamese localities and agencies, especially in the fields of economy, investment, people-to-people exchange, local cooperation, science and technology, innovation, etc.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister expressed his delight at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendship and Cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and New York City, considering this a vivid demonstration of the good relations between Vietnam and the United States in general and between the localities of the two countries in particular, and hoped that more cooperative relations between the localities of the two countries would be established in the coming time.
