Industry and Trade Sector: Promoting the pioneering role of the working class in the new era

Every year, Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health have become important events for Vietnam Trade Unions at all levels to listen and demonstrate their commitment to protecting workers' rights with practical policies.

The role of trade unions and the confidence of the working class

In 2012, the Central Party Secretariat (11th tenure) designated May every year as “Workers’ Month”. Since then, “Workers’ Month” has been chaired by the trade union, in coordination with sectors and enterprises, with many practical activities; thereby consolidating trust, class pride and strengthening the relationship between workers, civil servants, union members, laborers and trade unions.

Industry and Trade - one of the country's important economic sectors has achieved many important achievements in the past year: The industrial sector has shifted in a positive direction, both industry and trade maintain a fairly high growth rate. Import-export turnover and production value have increased rapidly over the years, contributing to expanding the market, attracting investment, accelerating growth and shifting economic structure.

The launching ceremony of Workers' Month and Labor Safety and Hygiene Action Month 2025 affirms the strong commitment of the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Industry and Trade Union in caring for the lives and protecting the rights of workers, creating a safe and healthy working environment.

Contributing to that achievement is the important role of trade union organizations at all levels under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and union members and workers in the industry. Mr. Le An Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) - said: In recent years, the emulation movement among workers and civil servants in the whole industry has been widely deployed by trade unions at all levels, attracting a large number of union members and workers to participate.

In fact, although there are still many difficulties, under the leadership and close direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor , the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the coordination and facilitation of the professional activities, the activities of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor have achieved important results: The jobs of union members and employees are basically maintained, income is stable, working conditions and policies are guaranteed. The average income of workers in the enterprise sector in the industry is estimated at 8 - 11 million VND/person/month.

The emulation movements of “Good workers, creative workers”, “Promoting initiatives, technical improvements”, “Learning and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh”... were widely launched; hundreds of thousands of initiatives, technical improvements, inventions, creations... were applied in practice with a total value of hundreds of billions of VND.

5 key tasks

In order to continue affirming the role of the working class in the new era - the era of national rise; at the same time, sending a strong call to the whole society: Taking care of workers is not only a responsibility but also a driving force for sustainable national development, Workers' Month 2025 has the theme "Vietnamese workers pioneering into the new era".

To concretize the program, since mid-April 2025, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade has had many practical activities, such as: Organizing health check-ups for workers and laborers; reviewing cases with especially difficult circumstances to support...; organizing the launching ceremony of Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene at Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company.

In this year's launching ceremony, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour organized many meaningful activities to thank workers, such as: Giving gifts to workers in difficult circumstances; giving Union Warm Houses; praising "Outstanding Workers of the Year in the Industry and Trade Sector - 2025"... On this occasion, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour also called on all union members, workers and trade unions at all levels to coordinate with the government, agencies, units and enterprises to uphold the spirit of responsibility, promote the patriotic emulation movement, set good examples in labor, production, work and study.

The year 2025 is of special importance, being the final year of implementing the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021-2025, while focusing on organizing Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, deploying and preparing well the fundamental factors to promote socio-economic growth and development in the period 2026-2030, but it is also a year predicted to have many challenges, including areas specific to the industry and trade sector and workers in the industry and trade sector. That reality requires trade unions to improve the quality and efficiency of their operations, arouse and promote the thinking capacity and creativity of cadres, civil servants, public employees, union members and workers to work with the Party Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to successfully carry out the political tasks assigned by the Party and the State to the Industry and Trade sector.

Accordingly, the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized 5 key tasks that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour needs to focus on, which are: First , the trade union organization needs to perform well its role and position as a bridge between the Party, the government and the workers; continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively carry out the work of disseminating, propagating and educating politics and ideology among civil servants, public employees and workers, especially young workers, helping each union member and worker to firmly grasp and strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws and the direction and administration of the Party Committee and the Ministry's leaders in the process of performing tasks; regularly grasp the thoughts and aspirations, and orient the ideology of union members, cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers, building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations.

Second , pay attention to and create conditions for union members to study, improve their political and professional qualifications, improve foreign languages, cultivate and train themselves, always fulfill their duties and responsibilities as officials, civil servants and public employees of the Industry and Trade sector, meeting the requirements of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

Third , party committees at all levels need to closely direct, and authorities at the same level need to closely coordinate with trade unions at the same level to effectively care for and fully protect the legitimate rights and interests of union members and employees. Implement democratic regulations in agencies and units well, participate in inspection, examination, and supervision of the implementation of regimes and policies related to union members and employees...

Fourth , clearly recognizing the significance of the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods", directing trade unions at all levels to continue to be proactive, creative, and innovate propaganda methods and forms to further enhance the responsibility of cadres, union members, workers, civil servants, and laborers in the entire industry in implementing the Campaign.

Fifth , constantly innovate the content and methods of operation of trade union organizations in the spirit of Resolution No. 02 of the Politburo on "Innovation of organization and operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation"; focus on training, fostering, and building a team of trade union officials with political mettle, moral qualities, responsibility, and enthusiasm; with professional qualifications and skills to meet the development requirements of each agency and unit.

The new context has many advantages but also poses many difficulties and challenges such as: the implementation of the policy of restructuring and streamlining the organizational apparatus must ensure close contact with the grassroots, taking care of the legitimate rights and interests of union members and employees of the organization; the implementation of the Trade Union Law 2024 with new points taking effect from July 1, 2025...

With a sense of responsibility and creativity, with the attention, leadership and coordination of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the consensus of employers, the unanimity of union members and workers, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade will have new developments, achieving even greater achievements...
