The second round of Vietnam-US reciprocal trade negotiations achieved positive results.

(Chinhphu.vn) - At the end of the negotiation round, Vietnam and the United States made positive progress, identifying groups of issues that reached consensus or had similar views, and groups of issues that need to continue to be discussed to reach agreement in the coming time.

Vietnam and the United States have identified groups of issues on which consensus or views are close, and groups of issues need to continue to be discussed to reach agreement in the coming time.

According to the agreed plan, the second round of negotiations on the Bilateral Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Vietnam and the United States will be held from May 19-22, 2025 in Washington DC, USA. The Vietnamese negotiating delegation is led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Head of the Government Negotiating Delegation, with the participation of members of the Negotiating Delegation and representatives of ministries and branches including: Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Construction, Home Affairs, Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology, Justice and the State Bank.

During the 3 days of negotiations, with great determination and effort, the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations discussed all the contents raised before the negotiation session in the spirit of goodwill, frankness, respect for institutions, harmony and balance of interests as well as in accordance with international commitments and the development level of each country.

The two sides spent time providing each other with information on each side's current policies, clarifying the contents of the draft text of the Agreement, and discussing a comprehensive approach to addressing fundamental issues of mutual concern to accelerate the negotiation process. At the same time, members of the two sides' negotiating delegations had open and constructive exchanges on economic and trade issues of core interest to both countries.

At the end of the negotiation round, Vietnam and the United States made positive progress, identifying groups of issues on which consensus or views were close, and groups of issues that need further discussion to reach agreement in the coming time.

In addition, the two sides also set time frames for feedback on the draft Agreement, proposed text, and held online meetings to prepare for the next negotiation session.

At the end of the third working day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session with Ambassador, Chief of the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to agree on the results achieved in the second round of negotiations and point out the contents that need to continue to focus on negotiations in early June 2025.

Ambassador and Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer appreciated Vietnam's goodwill and efforts in handling issues of concern to the US and hoped that the two sides would continue to promote technical exchanges, including at the ministerial level, to achieve results as soon as possible.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the assessments of Ambassador, Chief of the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and affirmed Vietnam's determination to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable manner for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries. The Minister agreed with Ambassador, Chief of the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, to assign technical levels of the two sides to continue to strengthen exchanges to soon reach an agreement in accordance with the expectations and conditions of each side.
