Despite many difficulties in weather conditions and epidemics, the agricultural sector still has positive contributions to the province's growth target in recent times.
Responding to natural disasters and epidemics promptly, maintaining stable production
Since the beginning of the year, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has thoroughly grasped the Government's Resolutions No. 154/NQ-CP and 25/NQ-CP on growth targets, proactively issued many plans and documents directing production, and assigned specific targets to each unit and locality. The work of preventing and combating natural disasters and epidemics has been given top priority, with the consolidation of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, organizing training, drills, and issuing detailed response scenarios. Recently, during the production inspection in Dai Dong commune, Mr. Dinh Cong Su, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, shared: Every storm and every epidemic is a test. But the province is determined to maintain production, not to break the food supply chain. Only when farmers are assured of production can the growth rate of the entire provincial economy be maintained.
The province's agricultural production continues to maintain stable growth momentum with many sustainable development models.
Thanks to synchronous implementation, the province's agricultural, forestry and fishery production remains stable. In the first months of 2025, the industry's growth rate reached 3.26%. The total area of annual crops reached more than 264 thousand hectares, and grain output reached over 676 thousand tons. Notably, rice output increased by 0.5% over the same period, and vegetables of all kinds increased by 3.6%. This demonstrates the flexible adaptation of the agricultural sector to weather fluctuations. In livestock farming, despite facing African swine fever, the sector has closely directed and synchronously applied veterinary, quarantine and vaccination measures. Thanks to that, livestock and poultry herds are basically stable. The aquaculture sector continues to take advantage of the lake's water surface, associated with the orientation of farming combined with eco-tourism .
Implementing the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) program, many high-quality agricultural products have been put into production in the province and have been well received by the market.
One of the highlights is the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program. To date, the province has 609 products with 3 stars or more. Of these, 6 are 5-star products and 100 are 4-star products. Many products have affirmed their brands in the domestic market and are aiming for export. Localities have turned OCOP into a driving force for new rural development, increasing people's income. Comrade Nguyen Huy Nhuan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized: OCOP is not only a product but also a story about the identity, culture and aspirations of farmers to become rich legitimately. This is also the direction for Phu Tho agriculture to integrate more deeply.
The application of tissue culture technology in seedling production has really brought about strong changes in the province's agricultural sector in recent times.
At the same time, the new rural construction program continues to be vigorously implemented. After the merger, Phu Tho province has 84/133 communes meeting new rural standards, accounting for 63.2%, 3 communes meeting advanced standards, and 525 model residential areas. The rate of poor households in the province has decreased to 2.97%, near-poor households to 3.14%. The above results have important contributions from the agricultural sector through policies to support production and sustainable livelihoods.
Contribute to double-digit growth target
In the initial phase of operating the two-level government, the agriculture and environment sector quickly completed its organization, putting the new apparatus including 5 specialized departments, 8 branches, and 7 affiliated public service units into stable operation. The whole sector has nearly 1,850 cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers, who are reasonably assigned, ensuring no interruption or overlap in functions. Thanks to that, administrative reform has been promoted. In the first month alone, the whole sector received more than 20,000 records in the agriculture and environment sector. Of which, over 13,000 online records have become an important step in the sector's digital transformation. "The sector has identified administrative reform and digital transformation as a breakthrough. We strive to make each procedure faster and more transparent, creating maximum conditions for people and businesses," emphasized comrade Nguyen Huy Nhuan.
Many high-tech agricultural production models have contributed to increasing the value of the province's agricultural products.
On that basis, the agricultural sector has actively contributed to the province's common goals. Especially when recently, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 554/QD-UBND assigning targets, striving to achieve GRDP growth of about 10.3% in 2025, higher than the 10% assigned by the Government. In the general structure, the province's agricultural sector not only ensures the supply of food but also plays a supporting role when other sectors encounter difficulties.
Farmers' peace of mind in production has created strong changes in agricultural production.
Entering the final stage of the year, the provincial agricultural sector continues to set a growth target of over 3.5% for the entire agricultural, forestry and fishery sector. Along with that, restructuring agriculture towards modernity, ecology and organicity; expanding production models associated with tourism and e-commerce; promoting value chain linkages.
Linking production models with tourism and e-commerce has increased production value and also contributed to improving the lives of ethnic minorities in the province.
Challenges remain with climate change, increasingly severe natural disasters, and the risk of disease. However, “with a spirit of determination and creativity, the province’s agricultural sector will continue to affirm its “supporting” role, contributing to the successful implementation of the province’s socio-economic development goals in the new period, especially contributing to the double-digit growth target as set out.
