Many students have never been out of the district, so this is their first time in a big city. They are not only excited to attend the festival but also to visit Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Tran Phu Thien (Secretary of the School Youth Union, Tan Thoi High School, Tien Giang)
The festival was organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), the General Department of Vocational Education (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs), as part of a series of admissions and career counseling programs in 2024. The festival attracted 235 consulting booths from domestic and international educational institutions.
Students are excited
2024 is the first time teachers and students of Tan Chau High School (An Giang) have attended the Admissions and Career Counseling Day in Ho Chi Minh City. When the first information about the day was published in Tuoi Tre, Mr. Bach Thai Hoc, Secretary of the School Youth Union, disseminated it to students to collect statistics on their wishes to participate.
"The students are very excited. Those who registered to attend the fair all wish to meet directly with the schools at the fair to have their questions about enrollment answered this year," said Mr. Hoc.
Mr. Tran Phu Thien, Secretary of the Youth Union of Tan Thoi High School (Tien Giang), said that this year, about 180 students from the school are expected to travel to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in the festival.
Because the school is located on an island in the middle of the Tien River, 45-seat buses cannot get there, so teachers and students will have to gather at the school before 5am, walk together to the ferry to the mainland, then get on the bus to depart for Saigon.
Although the journey is more difficult than other schools, Mr. Thien said that attending the admissions and career counseling day is an indispensable part of the school year. The 12th grade students look forward to it, each year the number of students participating accounts for more than 90% of the total number of students in the grade.
Important school events
Go Cong Dong High School (Tien Giang) is one of the schools with a "tradition" of attending the admissions and career counseling day for many years now, with the number of participants always being around 1,000 students each time.
This year, the school booked more than 20 45-seat buses to transport students from Go Cong Dong to Ho Chi Minh City to attend the festival.
Mr. Doan Cong Thuan, Secretary of the Youth Union of Go Cong Dong High School (Tien Giang), said that the school pays great attention to enrollment activities and always takes advantage of opportunities to support students with the most complete information before major exams or admission options.
Therefore, right from the beginning of the school year, the school has included participation in the admissions and career counseling day in the plan of important events of the year.
Around November and December, school representatives often proactively contact the organizing committee from Tuoi Tre newspaper to get the expected schedule of programs and festivals. Immediately after that, the school will deploy for students to register to attend.
Most of the 12th graders participated. Many 11th graders who wanted to learn about the major also came along.
"Almost all preparations were completed by the school before Tet, ready for the festival," said Mr. Thuan.
As for teachers and students of Nguyen Quang Dieu High School (An Giang), due to the long distance, they will depart for the festival at... midnight. After more than 6 hours of driving, including a rest stop, the school's convoy is expected to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City at around 6:30 a.m., in time for the opening ceremony.
"Although the trip is far, the number of students participating is very large. They are all eagerly waiting for the festival" - Mr. Phan Huu Hanh, Secretary of the School Youth Union, shared.
He added that each year the school will consider the number of registered students to decide whether to participate in the festival in Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho. This year, some students initially wanted to go to Can Tho, but then they decided to go to Ho Chi Minh City with a total of 6 cars.
Mr. Hanh said: "In addition to participating in the festival, we will organize tours for students to some destinations in Ho Chi Minh City to create more opportunities for students to explore Ho Chi Minh City."
Free admission
Right after the Admissions and Career Counseling Day in Ho Chi Minh City are two festivals in Can Tho and Hanoi.
In Can Tho, the festival was held on Sunday morning, March 10, at Can Tho University.
In Hanoi, the festival will take place on Sunday morning, March 17, on the campus of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
All festivals are free and open to the public. Parents and students are invited to attend.
Parents get involved
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vien, principal of Cho Gao High School (Tien Giang), said that besides students, some parents will follow the school's convoy to the admissions and career counseling day. These are parents whose children are in grade 12.
Parents who want to participate in updating more information about exams and university admission methods to conveniently accompany their children.
Mr. Tran Van Ky, principal of Tran Van Hoai High School (Tien Giang), said that this year the school participated in the festival with nearly 900 students.
In addition to grade 12 students, grade 10 and grade 11 students are also given the opportunity to attend the conference. Through this, they can learn about their major early, receive initial advice from experts and have a clear direction for themselves.
