Researchers from Tufts University (USA) analyzed data of 46,000 people aged 20 and over, from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 - 2018, to find out how coffee drinking methods affect longevity.

Participants were asked to report on their diet.

Coffee consumption was classified by type (caffeinated or decaffeinated), sugar content.

The amount of sugar added to coffee is considered low if it is under 2.5g - about half a teaspoon of sugar for an 8-ounce iced coffee or a cup of hot coffee.

During a median follow-up of 9–11 years, there were a total of 7,074 deaths, including 1,089 deaths from cardiovascular disease.

The results found that coffee consumption - about 1 - 2 cups of caffeinated coffee per day - helps reduce all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality, helping to prolong life. The next content of this article will be on the health page on June 18 .

Doctors point out common mistakes when bathing

Bathing is a familiar daily habit, seemingly simple and harmless. However, according to dermatologists, if you do not bathe properly, you may be unintentionally damaging your skin without even knowing it.

Common mistakes when bathing that few people pay attention to are the reason why the skin becomes increasingly dry, irritated and vulnerable.

Water temperature. According to Bhavuk Dhir, a dermatologist at PSRI Hospital, New Delhi, one of the most common bathing mistakes is using water that is too hot combined with scrubbing the skin too hard. This can strip the skin of its natural oils and disrupt its outermost protective barrier, leading to dryness, irritation, and increased sensitivity.

Research in the journal Clinical Medicine also confirms that hot water can damage the skin's protective barrier, leaving skin dehydrated and prone to redness or inflammation.

Meanwhile, cold or warm water is more gentle, helps reduce water loss and helps maintain healthy skin.

Bathing frequency. Not only is hot water harmful, but the habit of bathing too many times a day or using strong soaps is also bad for the skin.

According to Mr. Dhir, bathing frequently, especially with a lot of soap or bathing for a long time, can cause the skin to lose its natural protective layer, causing dryness, irritation and disruption of the beneficial microflora on the skin's surface. Food is healthier when served cold.

According to nutritionists, some familiar foods such as white rice or potatoes become more nutritious after cooling.

This is because the cooling process can cause food to change its chemical structure, forming resistant starch, which helps stabilize blood sugar.

Not only resistant starch, the cooling and storage process of some foods also triggers higher antioxidant absorption.

Cooling certain foods is not only a way to preserve food, but also a method to improve its natural nutritional value.

Here are foods that become more nutritious after cooling.

White rice. When cooked and cooled, white rice forms resistant starch, a type of starch that is slower to digest.

Refrigerated white rice may reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes by helping you regulate your blood sugar levels.

Potatoes. According to Debbie Petitpain, a nutritionist working in the US, potatoes are a starchy food that forms resistant starch when cooled. This is good for intestinal health and blood sugar control.

Fennel. Fennel that has been refrigerated for 15 days has higher levels of phenolic acids (antioxidants). These help reduce the risk of chronic diseases caused by oxidative stress. Start your day with health news to see more of this article!
