Listening to his wife's advice, the Korean goalkeeper became a hero at the 2023 Asian Cup

Jo Hyeon-woo was the standout player for the Korean national team in the 2023 Asian Cup Round of 16. In the penalty shootout, he blocked two shots from Saudi Arabian players, directly helping the Korean team win a dramatic victory. Jo Hyeon-woo revealed that he had no special secret in this penalty shootout but simply listened to his wife.

"Before the match, my wife told me to choose the right side and coincidentally it was very true. I have to thank her for telling me to fall to the right side. I will try my best until the last match and I hope she will encourage me a lot," said the goalkeeper of the Korean team.

Jo Hyeon-woo's wife is Lee Hee-young, who is three years older than the South Korean goalkeeper. The couple married in 2016 and have two daughters. According to Chosun, the 32-year-old goalkeeper always mentions his wife in personal interviews on television. Jo Hyeon-woo has a tattoo of his wife's face on his arm.

Speaking more about the two penalty saves, goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo said: "I'm very confident because I've practiced penalties a lot. I always imagine possible scenarios.

Jo Hyeon-woo was the number one goalkeeper for the South Korean national team in previous years but he failed to maintain this position under coach Jurgen Klinsmann. However, at the 2023 Asian Cup, the 32-year-old goalkeeper returned to the starting line-up after teammate Kim Seung-gyu suffered a serious injury.
