Foreign players participate in the national A-class volleyball tournament

The 2025 National A-Class Volleyball Tournament, which kicked off yesterday, October 23 in Ha Tinh, was very exciting with the participation of foreign players from the US and Europe.

Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), said that the A-class volleyball tournament continues to allow teams to register up to 2 foreign players but only 1 foreign player is allowed to play on the field. "This year's tournament has seen an explosion of foreign players in the women's category, notably the appearance of hitters from strong volleyball backgrounds such as the US and Slovakia, in addition to familiar foreign players from Thailand. The foreign players participating in this year's tournament are assessed to have good professional quality, promising to bring fans many good and classy moves," said Mr. Truong.

American foreign player Adora Anae joins Hanoi Club

The Hanoi team recruited two foreign players, the main striker Adora Anae from the US and the middle blocker Kaewkalaya Kamulthala from Thailand. The Bac Ninh team also has two foreign players, Eva Zatkovic (Slovenia) and Nannaphat Moonjakham (Thailand). The last foreign player is Julia Sangiacomo (USA) playing for the Quang Ninh team. They are all foreign players whose talents have been confirmed, such as Adora Anae who used to play for the US volleyball team, Eva Zatkovic is a Slovakian player, and Kaewkalaya Kamulthala is also a member of the Thai volleyball team.

The women's category has 8 teams: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, VTV Youth Binh Dien Long An , Information Corps Youth (Group A); Quang Ninh, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong (Group B). The teams compete in a round robin to select the first and second place teams in each group to compete in the semi-finals and finals.

According to the coaches' assessment, the 3 teams that have spent a lot of money on recruiting foreign players and also have a fairly even domestic force, namely Hanoi, Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh, will be candidates to compete for the championship title and the promotion ticket. Before the A-League this year, the Hanoi team received good news about the introduction of a sponsor, from which they invested in foreign players and took good care of the whole team. Notably, the Hanoi team has a young star squad that is on the rise, and is considered to have great potential, namely Vi Thi Yen Nhi, Bui Thi Anh Thao, and Le Thuy Linh. These are the 3 players of the U.21 Vietnam team that participated in the U.21 World Volleyball Championship in August. Meanwhile, the Quang Ninh team has Vietnamese volleyball player Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, who is one of the top scorers of Vietnamese women's volleyball, along with some notable names such as Ngoc Tram and Thuy Vi. In the opening match yesterday, the Quang Ninh team affirmed its strength when it easily won 3-0 against Phu Tho.

The success of Vietnamese women's volleyball at both the national and youth levels when they first qualified for the world championship, the 2025 U.21 World Cup, created a positive effect. Many localities and clubs received good investment, including youth training. The national volleyball championship and the A-class tournament also created a strong attraction for fans. VFV also made efforts in organizing such as the first time introducing video challenge eyes technology to support referees in the A-class tournament.

7 teams compete in the men's category

In the men's category of the 2025 National A-Class Volleyball Tournament, there are 7 teams competing: Vinh Long, Ha Tinh, Mobile Police Command, Binh Duong Construction Materials, Military Zone 3, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang Youth. The host Ha Tinh is the only team to use foreign players when recruiting hitter Assanaphan Chantajorn (Thailand) with the ambition of winning a promotion ticket.
