On July 25, the torch for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was launched for the first time on the Seine River. The design of the torch for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games was previously announced, simulating the reflection of the Eiffel Tower on the rippling water of the Seine River, conveying the energy of peace .
Made of lightweight polished steel, the lower half of the torch features a relief pattern that simulates the movement of the Seine River, where the Olympic opening ceremony, expected to be held in front of more than half a million viewers, will take place.
Mathieu Lehanneur - the "father" of the torch revealed that his work was inspired by the three symbolic elements of Paris 2024: equality, water and peace.
“The design of the torch represents water with a motif based on the movement of waves. Meanwhile, the meaning of peace is expressed through soft curves,” added Mathieu Lehanneur.
With soft curves, the torch symbolizes peace, the symmetrical design symbolizes equality and fairness among athletes.
As is Olympic tradition, the torch will be lit in Olympia, Greece, on April 16, 2024. 10,000 torchbearers will carry the Olympic flame to Marseille, France, on May 8 and cross the Mediterranean to begin a journey through the country's 64 provinces, including five overseas provinces and territories.
ArcelorMittal, official partner of Paris 2024, will produce 2,000 torches, five times fewer than previous Olympics, to minimise the impact of production.

Paris was awarded the right to host the 2024 Summer Olympics at the 131st Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lima, Peru.
