The ambassador said the new US tariff policy in 2025, with a 20% reciprocal tax and 25-50% industry tax, is a big test for the Vietnamese economy . Preferential reciprocal tariffs provide a competitive advantage over ASEAN rivals, but industry and transit taxes are challenges that require transparency, reform, and a flexible competitive strategy.
However, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy said that if timely action is not taken, the risk of losing orders, increasing costs, and economic losses will be a high price that Vietnam will have to pay, especially in the face of competition from Thailand, India, and Bangladesh.
In Vietnam, if the origin of goods is not well controlled, exporting enterprises may face soaring costs, lose orders, or be eliminated from the global supply chain.

The Ambassador hopes that under the leadership of the Party and Government, Vietnam will diversify its markets and supply chains. Vietnam will actively promote signed free trade agreements (FTAs) such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans- Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to expand access to markets other than the US.
At the same time, Vietnam also expands cooperation with other important countries and regions such as Japan, India, Europe, and ASEAN countries to minimize risks from concentrating on one market.
