A "lighthouse" guiding global cooperation on cybersecurity

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam deeply believes that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention will be a historic milestone, opening a new era of cooperation in the effort to protect peace, stability and sustainable development of mankind.

On the afternoon of October 26, in his closing speech at the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention), Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang said that in the past two days, the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention was conducted solemnly and successfully with representatives of 72 countries that signed the convention.

Through the signing ceremony and summit, in addition to the important achievements in signing and joining the Hanoi Convention by countries, Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized three consensus results.

Firstly , the Hanoi Convention is a historic strategic step, demonstrating the vision, responsibility, common efforts and spirit of cooperation of the international community for a safe, trustworthy cyberspace, for people, for peace and sustainable development.

The Hanoi Convention has created a legal foundation for international cooperation; at the same time, it affirms the value of multilateral cooperation, equal dialogue and respect for national sovereignty, to ensure that cyberspace truly becomes an environment serving peace, fairness and sustainable development.

Second , the presence of a large number of countries, international organizations, institutions and individuals attending the signing ceremony demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, political will and high determination of the international community in the fight against cybercrime, opening up new opportunities to enhance cooperation, consolidate trust and promote common progress of humanity.

Third , the convention's adoption by consensus and the successful signing ceremony in Hanoi reaffirm the central role of the United Nations and strengthen international cooperation to address global challenges.

At the same time, it demonstrates the trust and confidence of the United Nations and the international community in the role, prestige, capacity and responsibility of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in solving global issues, first of all, protecting cyber security for a safe, humane and sustainable cyberspace.

For a safe, fair and humane digital future, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed and called on countries, organizations and businesses to strengthen cooperation in effectively implementing the Hanoi Convention with solidarity and strategic trust, with a sense of responsibility, sharing experiences, technology and resources, especially supporting developing countries.

The Minister of Public Security emphasized that Vietnam is committed to fully, seriously and responsibly implementing its obligations under the convention, enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and coordinating actions with member countries in preventing and combating cybercrime.

Vietnam firmly believes that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention will be a historic milestone, opening a new era of cooperation in the effort to protect peace, stability and sustainable development of mankind.

Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang believes that the Hanoi Convention will truly become a "beacon" illuminating the way for global cooperation on cybersecurity, bringing the world to the goal of technology for people and digitalization for peace.

Speaking at the closing session, Mr. John Brandolino, Director of the Department of International Treaty Affairs at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said that high-level panels, roundtable discussions, side events and exhibitions enriched the event's discussions.

The message from the discussions, according to Mr. John Brandolino, is: The Hanoi Convention opens up a safer and fairer future for everyone – both in the real world and in cyberspace.

However, Mr. John Brandolino noted that negotiating the Convention is just the beginning. "Now, the task of the countries is to work together towards the next milestone - the Convention coming into force," Mr. John Brandolino said.
