At around 5:00 p.m. on May 13, within the framework of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival, the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni were brought to Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi .
This is the fourth time Vietnam has hosted the Vesak Festival, but this is the first year that Buddha relics have been displayed.
At 7 p.m. the same day, the Buddha's relics were brought onto a car to be carried around Hoan Kiem Lake for all to see. Many people had been there since noon, waiting for the moment the Buddha's relics arrived and continued to follow the procession in the evening.
Quan Su Pagoda is the third destination in the itinerary of four pagodas in Vietnam displaying Buddha relics during this year's Great Festival. This is the headquarters of the Central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, with deep historical and cultural values, not only a place of worship but also a point of intersection between Buddhist sects, a testament to the longevity of Buddhism in Vietnam.
Here, the relics will be enshrined from May 14 to 16, 2025, open to a large number of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people to worship from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day.
Previously, on May 2, the Buddha's relics were invited from New Delhi, India, by military plane to Ho Chi Minh City - the venue of this year's Vesak Festival. Here, the Buddha's relics were enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda from May 3-8, then continued to be brought to Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh from May 9-12.
After being enshrined in Hanoi, the relics will be placed at Tam Chuc Pagoda, Ha Nam from May 17 to 21. This is also the place that hosted the 2019 Vesak Festival.
At the end of the ceremony, the relics will be solemnly escorted back to India./.
