People enjoy watching the 50 kg sturgeon 'causing a fever' at the 2025 Agricultural Week

A Siberian sturgeon raised for 15 years in Lai Chau was successfully auctioned for VND102 million at the 2025 Vietnamese Agricultural Products Week, more than 5 times the starting price.

At the Vietnam Agricultural Products Week 2025 taking place in Hanoi, organized by the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), many localities introduced and promoted typical agricultural products, contributing to connecting supply and demand, promoting the consumption of Vietnamese goods and affirming the brand of Vietnamese agricultural products in the market.

Most notably, the appearance of the largest Siberian sturgeon in Lai Chau province was introduced by Duong Yen Cooperative. This is considered a "record" in Lai Chau's fish farms today. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of Duong Yen Cooperative, said that Siberian sturgeon only grows well in cold water fish environments, where the temperature is maintained at a stable 18 - 22 degrees Celsius, ideal conditions to help the fish meat to be firm, sweet and rich in its characteristic flavor.

Normally, a sturgeon must be cared for for nearly 2 years to reach an average weight of 2-3 kg. Therefore, to have a "giant" sturgeon weighing up to 50 kg, Duong Yen Cooperative has raised it for 15 years.

Many people came to the 2025 Vietnam Agricultural Week to admire this special sturgeon. Not only adults, but also children were curious to watch and check in with the giant sturgeon.

Within the framework of the 2025 Vietnamese Agricultural Week, the Organizing Committee auctioned Siberian sturgeon. With a starting price of 20 million VND, singer Duc Phuc opened the auction by raising it to 25 million VND. However, a business owner in Ho Chi Minh City won the auction with 102 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Long, General Director of Proton LLC, who bid more than 3 times and offered the highest price of 102 million VND, said that this was a unique auction for Vietnamese sturgeon.

A representative of Duong Yen Cooperative said that all the money from selling Siberian sturgeon at the 2025 Vietnam Agricultural Products Exhibition Week will be used by the unit to maintain, raise, and breed Beluga sturgeon, a rare fish breed with large weight and high nutritional value.
