Woman hasn't returned home for Tet in 23 years, tearful on the last train ride of the year

On the afternoon of February 6 (27th of Tet), at Bien Hoa station, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized the program "Union Train - Spring 2024" for 200 workers and relatives in Dong Nai to return home for Tet.

According to VietNamNet, since noon, many workers and laborers have been present at Bien Hoa station, eagerly waiting to board the 2 p.m. train to return home to celebrate Tet and reunite with their families.

Ms. Dinh Thi Tuyen is happy to return home to celebrate Tet after 23 years.

Sitting with her two children waiting to board the train back to Thanh Hoa , Ms. Dinh Thi Tuyen (a worker at Changsin Vietnam Company) said that it has been 23 years since she returned to her hometown. This year, she was very happy to receive free train tickets to return to Hau Loc district (Thanh Hoa) to reunite with her family.

“Going back to my hometown to celebrate Tet is very happy, but working as a worker, my salary is only enough to live and raise two children. I cannot afford to have money for the whole family to go back to my hometown for Tet. After 23 years, I am finally able to visit my family and hometown,” Ms. Tuyen said, her eyes filled with emotion.

Besides, Ms. Le Thi Thuy (from Ha Giang, working at a company in Trang Bom district) said that she could not sleep all night long, just waiting for the time to get on the train to go home for Tet. For her, these moments were very emotional and meaningful, she is very grateful to the union for caring for the lives of union members.

“It’s been 10 years since I’ve been home for Tet with my family. When I heard that the union gave me a train ticket, I was so happy that last night when I fell asleep, I was afraid I would be late and not be able to go home,” Thuy shared her feelings.

Workers happily boarded the train to return home to reunite.

Representative of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Ha said that this spring union train will send more than 200 workers and their family members from Bien Hoa station to the Central and Northern provinces to return home to celebrate the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024.

“These are workers with special characteristics, achievements in production, creative initiatives in the working process, who have not had the opportunity to return home for Tet and are in difficult circumstances,” Ms. Ha shared.
