City International Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has just performed emergency surgery on a woman with a ruptured uterus.
Doctors treat woman with ruptured uterus
The patient, NTHH (33 years old, living in Binh Tan district), was 35 weeks pregnant and had a history of cesarean section abroad. Ms. H. was admitted to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain.
Realizing the critical situation, the doctors decided to perform surgery to save both mother and child, prioritizing the mother's life (in critical condition), and the baby could receive special care.
Immediately afterwards, the baby was quickly taken out of the mother's womb. Doctors discovered a 2cm rupture at the bottom of the uterus, and the intestinal loops were stuck to the damaged area, so they had to separate them.
The health of both mother and child recovered quickly afterwards, and the baby returned to her mother's arms after 3 days of special care.
According to Dr. Ta Thi Thanh Thuy, Medical Director and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at City International Hospital, this is a very serious and rare obstetric emergency. The reason is that the mother had a ruptured uterus that was patched without knowing it in a previous birth.
"Pregnant women should try to remember all related illnesses, whether internal diseases, especially a history of cesarean section or surgery (if any) before pregnancy and inform the obstetrician. This will help monitor smoothly and safely for both mother and child" - Dr. Thuy recommends.
