This is the first visit by a foreign head of state to Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Syria's newly appointed interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa has received the Emir of Qatar.
After the fall of President Assad's regime on December 8 last year, Qatar quickly re-established relations with Syria and reopened its embassy in the country.
Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's trip, which comes less than two months after Islamist-led rebels toppled Mr Assad's regime, follows a visit by Qatar's prime minister earlier this month.
"The Syrian Embassy in Doha confirms that the emir of Qatar will visit the Syrian capital Damascus... to meet the head of the new Syrian government," the Syrian Embassy said in a statement sent to AFP .
According to the Qatari Embassy, Emir Sheikh Tamim will meet with interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa "in a historic visit to discuss cooperation and aid in various fields".
Qatari television station Al Jazeera cited unnamed sources reporting the visit and said the Syrian president had confirmed the meeting with Sharaa.
Unlike other Arab states, Qatar has not restored diplomatic relations with Syria under Assad since the Syrian uprising in 2011.
During a visit two weeks ago, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani pledged to help rebuild Syria's infrastructure, which has been devastated by nearly 14 years of civil war.
