Nguyen Thuy Linh (27 years old) and Manami Suizu (21 years old) had faced each other 3 times before meeting at the 2025 Canada Open. In which, the No. 1 Vietnamese player defeated her opponent twice and lost once at the 2023 Korea Masters badminton tournament. The Japanese player has the advantage of youth and is on the rise, while Nguyen Thuy Linh has a lot of experience in the field. Both had impressive victories to advance to the championship match of the 2025 Canada International Badminton Championship. In which, Manami Suizu excellently defeated No. 1 seed Michelle Li (Canada, ranked 19th in the world) in the semi-finals.

Nguyen Thuy Linh missed the shuttlecock many times.

Nguyen Thuy Linh started the game quite cautiously, proactively controlling the shuttlecock to wait for opportunities from Manami Suizu's mistakes. The Japanese player confidently neutralized Nguyen Thuy Linh's traps and also created pressure with tricky shots at the end of the court. The number 1 Vietnamese player had impressive scoring shots but also missed quite a few shots, so she lost 12/21 in the first set.

Having a good start in game 2 with 3 consecutive points, Nguyen Thuy Linh continued to make many mistakes, so Manami Suizu quickly caught up. The Japanese player, with the advantage of youth, proactively "pulled" Thuy Linh into long-lasting shots. The attacking pressure created by Manami Suizu made Nguyen Thuy Linh "wobble" and accept defeat 14/21.

Losing 0-2 to Manami Suizu, Nguyen Thuy Linh received the runner-up title in the women's singles event of the 2025 Canada Open badminton tournament. Vietnam's No. 1 tennis player missed the opportunity to win the championship for the first time in the tournament in the World Tour Super 300 system. The prize for the runner-up title that Nguyen Thuy Linh received was 9,120 USD (about 230 million VND) and 5,950 bonus points.
