On October 22, a post appeared on social media accusing a famous restaurant in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh of selling hot pot for 665,000 VND but only having a few popular dishes in small quantities.
The article said that the hot pot was sold for 665 thousand VND but only had 6 duck eggs, 100 grams of beef, beans, lolot sausage and a handful of vegetables, which was too expensive.
The post immediately received many comments about also buying hot pot at this restaurant and only receiving the same amount of food.
Talking to VietNamNet reporter, Ms. Nguyen Trang (author of the post) said that on October 20, her group of about 10 people went to TLT restaurant (Hong Hai ward, Ha Long city) for dinner.
Before the restaurant could serve the hot pot, everyone was full and wanted to leave. Ms. Trang told the restaurant to pick up the hot pot tomorrow morning, then paid and left. The bill for dinner that night was more than 5.5 million VND (including the crab hot pot).
On October 21, Ms. Trang went to the restaurant to pick up hot pot to take home, but the restaurant informed her that the kitchen was not operating yet so it would be delivered to her home.
When she received the hot pot, Ms. Trang opened it and saw that there were only a few dishes, so she called the restaurant to ask. The restaurant staff said that they had always sold the same amount of food and because the price of the hot pot was high, the amount of food was only like that.
Disagreeing with the restaurant's explanation, Ms. Trang posted the story on social media.
“We chose this restaurant because it has a nice view, spacious and airy seating. Maybe because the restaurant has to rent a space and pay a lot of money, so the prices are higher than other places, but everything has to be pleasing to the eye, it can’t be this cheap.
Until today, after posting on social media, the restaurant has not contacted to discuss the incident clearly," said Ms. Trang.
Confirming with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Hoang Van Xuan (TLT restaurant manager) said that the incident happened at the restaurant but the nature was different from the content on the internet. The image Ms. Trang posted was indeed the restaurant's food but not enough.
Accordingly, up to now, the restaurant has been selling a crab hotpot for 665 thousand VND with side dishes such as: 200g ground crab, 300g ribs, 1.50g American beef shank, 6 balut eggs, 12 lolot leaf sausages, 12 golden sausages, 12 fried tofu pieces with some vegetables, mushrooms, and noodles.
“Food presented in a restaurant is more neat than being sent home in a box. Ms. Trang posted a slightly messy photo on social media, but the restaurant apologized and wanted to not charge for the meal, but Ms. Trang did not agree,” said Mr. Xuan.
