According to SCMP , Professor Li Chunsheng is an expert in the field of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology, with outstanding contributions to image processing and improving the quality of radar images. The school said he has made “fundamental and important contributions” to this technology, and has also trained many talents for the space remote sensing industry.

In addition to teaching and research, he has held many positions in national military and aerospace organizations, including the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission of China.

During his career, he has published more than 80 scientific papers, published 4 monographs and been the team leader and chief scientist of many major national research projects, including the National High-Tech Program (863) and the National Basic Research Program (973).

Professor Li Chunsheng was born in Tianjin in 1963 and graduated from Beijing Aeronautical University (the predecessor of Beihang) in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in radar and navigation. He began his teaching career at the school in the same year.

He received his master's degree in 1991 and successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 1998.

During his scientific career, Professor Li has received many prestigious awards, including the State Science and Technology Progress Award from the State Council, and four major awards from the military - although the details of his award-winning work remain confidential.

He is also an independent director of Beijing-based Hwa Create Technology Co., Ltd., one of China's leading satellite chip suppliers. Last month, he was appointed honorary director of a key laboratory in Hainan Province.

In recent years, China has seen the passing of many of its top scientists and engineers – most of whom worked in areas related to national security and strategic technology – due to accidents and illness. Professor Li’s death is a huge loss to the country’s scientific community.
