The White House has instructed the Pentagon to lift a ban imposed by former US President Joe Biden's administration on supplying 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, three Israeli officials revealed.
The Israeli government was notified by the Pentagon on January 24 that the ban had been lifted, an official said. Officials said 1,800 MK-84 bombs currently stored in the United States would be loaded onto ships and shipped to Israel in the coming days.
The White House has not yet responded to questions about lifting the ban on supplying heavy bombs to Tel Aviv.
Former President Biden's decision last May to halt the delivery of the 2,000-pound bombs triggered one of the biggest crises in US-Israeli relations during the 15-month war in Gaza.
President Donald Trump recently welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, but said it would not have happened if he had not won the White House race last November.
According to Mr. Trump, this agreement signals to the world that his administration will seek peace and negotiate agreements to ensure the safety of all American citizens and of America's allies.
Mr Trump also affirmed that his incoming national security team will continue to coordinate with Israel and US allies to ensure that Gaza will never become a safe haven for terrorists.
