On May 1, the price of Ri6 durian in the Mekong Delta was 25,000 VND/kg at the garden, down 5,000 - 15,000 VND/kg compared to 1 month ago. However, the gardeners are more worried because despite the low price, there are still no traders.
Passersby stopped to buy durian
Faced with the above situation, many gardeners in Phong Dien district ( Can Tho city), Chau Thanh A (Hau Giang) have directly brought durian to the side of National Highway 61C (the route connecting Can Tho - Vi Thanh) to sell.
Durian sold on the roadside is more expensive than in the garden. Accordingly, the price of Ri6 durian ranges from 30,000 to 60,000 VND/kg (depending on the type). According to Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi (in Phong Dien, Can Tho City), due to the large durian output and the absence of traders, he had to mobilize his family members to sell wholesale on the roadside; whatever he could get, he could. This situation is also common in Can Tho City, Vinh Long and some provinces in the West.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hau Giang province, the durian market is facing a number of significant challenges, especially related to quality, price and consumption. Durian prices are showing a sharp downward trend due to factors such as: increasing supply as farmers expand production areas; some countries tighten control over the quality of imported durian.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that farmers ensure that their products meet food safety standards as required by importing countries or international standards to easily access demanding markets in order to expand markets in the future. At the same time, they should invest in advanced farming technology and techniques to improve the quality of durian.

Businesses need to invest in processing durian products to increase their value. Encourage cooperatives linking farmers and businesses to create sustainable supply chains, helping to stabilize prices and improve consumption efficiency. Farmers and businesses need to focus on quality, diversify products and expand the durian market to overcome the current difficult period.
